I still can’t believe this was 5 weeks ago. I decided this time that I wanted a birth photographer to capture our birth. At the start of my pregnancy I searched for a midwife to have a Homebirth however there wasn’t one close enough to wagga. My last labour with Evie was 2 hours so I half expected that I may have another fast one this time. I brought Brianna onboard from .. who patiently waited while I went to 41+1 weeks. On Sunday the 17th of January I text her around 2:15pm to say I thought I was having some mild contractions.. by 3pm they were getting stronger and closer together so Rick and I headed up to wagga base (after he walked out of the house with no shoes on!) and got to the birth suite not long before 3:30... with Livi arriving at 3:35pm just after I hopped in the birthing tub.. I’m so grateful for how fast those incredible midwives filled that bath! Having not given Brianna much time to prepare she somehow organized another lovely photographer to come in her place and the lovely Clare arrived not long after Livi was born to capture these moments for us. Thank you Brianna for patiently waiting all that time and thank you Clare for the precious memories!

Well done Westmead public hospital.. now lets try get these options to regional women as well!

Much like a pregnancy ( but much longer😜) we have planned, prepared, hoped and dreamed and we can finally announce that Westmead Public Hospital will now be offering publicly funded home birth as an option for women in western Sydney.
The service will be run within our caseload midwifery program. Not all our caseload midwives will be participating for now but speak to your caseload midwife or message through this FB page for more information.
There will be more details to follow ( including lots of info about the benefits of home birth), but we could not contain our excitement any longer 👏🏻🥂🥰

I’ve been very quiet on here due to opening our new business however my doula and beautiful friend Karen sent this through via an email the other day and I hadn’t seen it before! It brought back so many memories and emotions! This was the moment after Evie was born in the water after a very speedy labor with my amazing midwives, doula and husband present. My waters broke at 6pm while I was cooking dinner, after some mild Braxton’s Hicks my contractions started at 7pm and Evie arrived at 8pm! A very short and sweet 2 hours from start to finish!

Tonight was my last prenatal yoga class for the next few months. I will be putting my yoga classes and doula support on “maternity leave” while we birth our “new baby” . Once we have found our groove with our new business I will slowly start welcoming my yoga classes and doula support back and will let you all know when I do!
In the meantime please pop over to and see Tiff for her prenatal yoga, Muma and bubs classes and Hypnobirthing courses! And for doula support please pop over and see Shelley at Shelley Wylie Doula Services !
These 2 beautiful women in the pic are both 38 weeks and also about to enter a new transition in their lives in the next few weeks.. please send them lots of strong birthing vibes!
I look forward to sharing updates with you all along the way. Thank you for all the support the last 2 years. I’m incredibly grateful for all the friendships I have made along the way and all the families I have supported on their birthing journey x

Oh I love these words! How appalling to have this level of scrutiny - thanks
・・・
You might have seen the news recently that the Duchess of Sussex (the lady I hold personally responsible for the fact that no one has been able to spell my name correctly for the past 2 years 😜), has been described as a 'birth brat', which I can only assume is the journalistic birth equivalent to bridezilla.. 'God! What was she asking for?' you might be wondering.. 'Lobster after the birth and a jewel encrusted birth pool?'

Nope. According to the press the Duchess wanted to be able to choose her own healthcare providers, her own place of birth and not be subjected to a photo shoot by the worlds media immediately after giving birth. Oh! Like.. basic human rights then?

The fact that requests like this, or even more specific choices like whether to have examinations or whether to have continous monitoring in labour are seen as 'unusual', or 'being difficult' says a hell of a lot more about our society, women's rights and the narrative around birth than it does about The Duchess of Sussex!

We don't go to the hair dressers and get told- 'well you're turning 40 now so it's time to get a crop style, you have a big forehead so i'm just going to cut you a quick fringe'..

Why is birth any different? Why is the default expectation that the minute we fall pregnant our bodies become the property of other people. Whether that friends, family or even total strangers expressing their opinions about what we do or eat during pregnancy or our plans for birth.. or during labour itself when it's expected for women to walk into a hospital and say 'ok, get the baby out, do whatever it takes'.

You're not being difficult, or a brat, for having your own thoughts and opinions about what you want for your birth.. from the hundreds of women I've worked with and hundreds more birth stories I've heard, THIS is the single most important part of getting a positive birth experience. Not hypnobirthing, not being in a pool, not where you give birth- but deciding things for YOURSELF and being supported in those decisions

Incredible words and ❤️

We are getting to the end of World Doula week and I still haven’t shared about my amazing start to World Doula week last weekend. I’m so grateful for not only the company of amazing women but to get to meet and hear from some of my “mentors”.. people who have guided my learning and inspiration.. Dr Sarah Buckley, and Jenny Blyth.. plus many more. And then of course there are my beautiful friends and mentors and the lovely Briony from who I got to know over the weekend. My cup has been so incredibly full from the connection and wisdom shared with these incredible women who are doing great some amazing things in the birthing world for women and families.
And then of course all the families who have invited me into their homes and to be apart of the births of their babies. My role as a doula has brought me sooo much more happiness and joy than I could have ever imagined 💕
And last but not least I want to acknowledge .doulaservices. Knowing I have an amazing back up and someone to bounce knowledge off has been awesome. I’m so freaking grateful for the chance to be able to collaborate and share the doula word with you

And it feels amazing!

“Manteado” is a gentle sifting, like a rhythmic jiggle. This way of using the Rebozo aims to: Relax tight uterine ligaments and abdominal muscles, help a baby rotate in pregnancy or labor more easily and, help a birthing woman relax into her labor. Learn more: bit.ly/SpBRM
