I feel so fortunate to have amazing colleagues in Wagga that I can rely on to discuss patient care with.

Dr. Steve Smith is one of these valued professionals. As the Orthodontist at the OSO Centre, he consistently provides thoughtful, practical, and expert advice on complex cases. Whether it’s over email or an early morning coffee at Carlo’s, his insights are always invaluable - not only for my patients, but for my own growth as a practitioner.

✨ Fluoride: Nature’s Secret to Strong Teeth

Did you know fluoride comes straight from nature - found in rocks, soil, and water? 🌿 Over time, it’s become one of the most trusted ways to protect your smile from decay.

You’ll find it in your toothpaste, dependent on location - tap water, and even in professional dental treatments - all working to keep your enamel strong and your teeth cavity-free. 🦷

Not sure if you’re getting enough fluoride? Ask our team at your next visit - we’ll help you keep your smile healthy for life! 💙

We stock a range of fluoridated toothpastes ranging in different flavours.

Another academic year has flown by, and it’s time to farewell our graduating CSU Dental students! 🎓

We celebrated this momentous milestone with a wonderful dinner at The Magpie’s Nest, and the students also treated us to a delicious breakfast on their final day in Clinic. 🥐☕

At the start of 2025, they were unfamiliar faces with so much to learn - now they’re friends and colleagues. It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye, but I’m so excited to see where their careers take them next.

As Dr. Seuss said:
“You’re off to great places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way.” 🦷✨

🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

Every year, over 3,300 Australians including 33 men lose their lives to breast cancer.
That’s someone’s mother, sister, brother, friend, or loved one whose life has been tragically cut short.

The good news? Thanks to groundbreaking research, the five-year survival rate has risen from 76% to 92% since 1994. But there’s still more to be done.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is on a mission to reach Zero Deaths from breast cancer by focusing on the remaining 8% who don’t survive beyond five years.

💗 This October, let’s stand together - raise awareness, fund research, and support those affected.
Because every life matters. 💗

“When I moved to Wagga as a new graduate in 1984, a patient told me how wonderful it was to live somewhere with all four seasons. Every spring, as my garden bursts into colour, I’m reminded of their words - and how lucky we are to enjoy warm summers, golden autumns, fresh winters, and blossoming springs.” 💖

🪥 Before or after breakfast - when should you brush? 🪥

According to dental experts via The Washington Post, there’s no single “right” answer, but here’s what we took away from the article:

Brush before breakfast → removes overnight bacteria + coats enamel with fluoride before you eat.
☕ Brush after breakfast → clears food + coffee residue from the morning meal.
💡 Best case? Brush both before and after (if you can).
🥂 If you’ve had acidic foods (OJ, citrus, vinegar), wait 30–60 mins before brushing to protect enamel.

No matter when you brush, use a soft brush, gentle pressure, and don’t rinse away all that fluoride!
And floss or TePe or Pikster once a day - before or after brushing doesn’t matter as much as just doing it. 🦷

“The beauty of a long weekend is time to travel.
This October long weekend took me back to Adelaide, the city I spent the first 21 years of my life in. It’s always a joy to revisit the place that shaped so many memories.
Catching up with family is always the highlight - the smiles say it all 🤍”

- Mary-Anne Slater

Hope you all had a lovely long weekend 💌

Recently Mary-Anne attended an update on prescribing drugs for children in the dental surgery course. A fabulous course packed with golden nuggets we look forward to sharing with you in the weeks ahead. 🤍🦷🪥

A highlight of any conference is reconnecting with colleagues, including a fellow Adelaide graduate she hadn’t seen in 43 years! 👩🏼‍🎓

And of course, no trip to Sydney is complete without a pastry stop… this time at Moon Phase, St Leonards. Highly recommend as a perfect start to the day. 🥐🥨

Wagga dentist, who treats you like family!

"I think the key difference to our dental practice is how we care for our patients. We listen to our patients, we treat them like people, like valued clients, like friends and family, because it is the patients that are the heart of our dental practice.

We're a dentist that will listen to what is important to you, your concerns about your mouth and how we can help you now. We can also help advise what the future holds for your dental care.

We talk in a language that you understand, and we don’t use long technical dental terms just to impress. Patients rarely need or want long, expensive, complex treatment plans. Going to a dentist in Wagga shouldn't be that hard. We want you to feel welcome and safe, and know that your priorities will always be our main focus."
