Iron is an important nutrient to ensure the healthy development of your baby during pregnancy. Iron helps move oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body and to your baby's.
If you're pregnant, you're at increased risk of iron deficiency anaemia. This is because, during pregnancy, the volume of blood in your body increases, and so does the amount of iron you need. Your body uses iron to make more blood to supply oxygen to your baby. If you don't have enough iron stores or get enough iron during pregnancy, then this leads to iron deficiency anaemia that can affect the growing foetus in many ways.
*Severe iron deficiency anaemia during pregnancy
increases the risk of premature birth.
*Iron deficiency anaemia during pregnancy is also
associated with having a low-birth-weight baby
and postpartum depression.
At Medical Infusions Australia, we provide intravenous iron as determined by your GP or obstetrician. During the process, your safety and wellbeing is constantly monitored throughout the process. We also monitor your baby’s heart rate using foetal doppler before and after the infusion.
