Wangaratta Private Hospital proudly joined the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the 16 Days of Activism.

One of our nursing students on placement, Skyla from Box Hill Institute, inspired us to take part in this important initiative. Thanks to her motivation, our staff and wider community came together to donate bags with essential provisions to support women and placed the filled bags at Bunnings to help those in need.

We celebrated Skyla’s leadership, along with the efforts of our team, with orange cupcakes, 1800Respect information packs, and meaningful conversations that built a deeper understanding of this year’s focus: Digital Abuse.

The Wangaratta Dorcas Quilters group have been working extremely hard again to support the patients in Wangaratta Private Hospital.

Their generous donation of quilts for the palliative patients (all with different themes and colours to represent the person that is being admitted), has made a huge difference to patients, their carers and family.

These quilts then belong to the patient and family. Sue Matthews, from Wangaratta Dorcas Quilters is seen presenting to Wendy the GPLO from Wangaratta Private Hospital, a selection of quilts and pillows.

The hand crafted pillows are square, with a pocket at the front of the pillow, fitted out with a children’s book, and these pillows are presented to children admitted for their ENT surgery, so that they have an improved experience of their stay in hospital. The pillow is placed on their bed prior to arrival, and the child sees this when brought into their room. The book inside the pocket is an added gift. This pillow goes home with them, and will always remind them of their stay.

To have the Quilter group understand the needs of palliative patients and also our young humans that need that extra support, has been a wonderful part of our collaboration with each other. Their sensitive and practical approach is greatly appreciated.

� A thousand reasons to celebrate with 1,000 Mako robotic surgeries completed!

We’re proud to celebrate with Dr Mike Falkenberg, who performed Wangaratta’s first Mako-assisted hip replacement, and Dr Richard Kjar, who completed our first knee replacement using the robotic technology. These experienced surgeons have helped bring advanced precision and faster recovery to patients across northeast Victoria.

Also celebrating the milestone were members of our outstanding team: � (L-R): Alicia, Shelley, Sharon, Suzanne and Janet – who’ve all played a key role in making this achievement possible. Here’s to the next 1,000!

The Wangaratta Private Hospital team had a fantastic time at Cathedral College's Careers Night yesterday, meeting local students and sharing insights into the many rewarding pathways in health.

From hands-on demonstrations with theatre instruments and intubation techniques, to conversations about nursing, pharmacy and study options—our passionate team brought the world of healthcare to life.

Special thanks to:
- Suzanne (RN) and Dr Jade Radnor (Anaesthetist) for their engaging theatre activities
- Wendy (RN) who shared her 43 years of nursing experience
- Jo from Ramsay Pharmacy for highlighting the diverse roles in pharmacy and nursing
- Allison (RN) who guided students through subject choices and career planning, and talked all things Ramsay Values, job prospects and study pathways.

It was a great opportunity to show that a career in healthcare can truly take you anywhere. Thank you to Cathedral College for having us!

🌟 Celebrating Our Volunteers During National Volunteer Week 🌟

Last week, we honoured National Volunteer Week by expressing our heartfelt gratitude to two extraordinary women who play a vital role at Wangaratta Private Hospital. Jill Graham and Colleen Slatter serve as Consumer Representatives on our Quality and Clinical Risk Committee.

Jill, who balances her full-time role at King Valley Learning Exchange, offers unique insights drawn from her lived experiences. Her contributions help us enhance the quality and safety of our healthcare services.

Colleen, a retired Enrolled Nurse at 90 years young, brings invaluable experience and a keen eye for identifying areas of improvement in our service delivery. Her dedication to patient safety and quality care is truly inspiring.

Both Jill and Colleen were presented with tokens of our appreciation—a beautiful plant for Jill and lovely flowers for Colleen.

Their commitment embodies the spirit of this year's National Volunteer Week theme: "Connecting Communities". Their contributions ensure that the voices of our consumers are heard and valued in our ongoing efforts to provide exceptional care.
