To my valued clients, referrers, colleagues and supporters,

It is with much gratitude (and a touch of sadness) that I announce that I will be discontinuing Body@Work Physiotherapy in 2020.
I have been greatly appreciative of your support over the years, and am proud to have made a mark as a sole trader since I commenced in 2014. I could not have achieved this five year milestone without your support, so my sincerest thanks!

Moving forward, I’m excited to announce that I will be working with Southside physiotherapy, both in Tuggeranong and Woden, from January 2020.

Please be assured that I will continue to provide the service and advice that I have become known for at Body@Work.
Educating, empowering clients and teaching them to move well will continue to be the mainstay of my practice. I am also pleased to be able to offer my services in the injury prevention/prehab space, running the world-renowned GLA.D program for knee and hip arthritis in the Woden practice.

I wish you all the very best in 2020 and look forward to working with you in the years to come!

TWO-THIRDS OF HERNIATED DISCS HEAL ON THEIR OWN! - RESULTS FROM A RECENT META-ANALYSIS

Too many people think that once you have a disc herniation (or disc bulge), that you’ve got it for life. Well, a recent meta-analysis has shown that 2/3 of disc bulges spontaneously heal on their own! Many of them within a few months too, not years. 😱

Conclusion from the paper: “Because the overall incidence of disc de-herniation is now 66.66% according to our results, conservative treatment may become the first choice of treatment for LDH.”

So it seems like this is as good an opportunity as any...

I am thrilled to be joining Southside Physiotherapy Woden in January, to offer the GLA:D Program that is cited in this study.

The numbers are in from this worldwide study, and it has been found to be hugely beneficial to participants in restoring both strength and confidence in their knee.
This in turn also enables a more active lifestyle, thereby also addressing up to 35 other significant health issues associated with inactivity, and improving overall quality of life.

Advice to rest and avoid pain is commonly provided to people with knee and other joint pains - advice that is often wrong, and harmful.

Beautifully put!

Don’t let the illusion of complexity fool you.

Exercise doesn’t have to be complicated.

It doesn’t have to be sprinting or hoisting or screaming or shouting or bleeping or trouncing or shfeezing or blowfing.

You don’t have to be a member of a fancy schmantzy gym or high end spa or even The Inquisitorial Squad to have a good workout.

You don’t have to lift so heavy the vein in your forehead bursts through your skin.

You don’t have to sweat so much your butt cheeks feel like a big stinky swamp.

And don’t let anyone fool into thinking you don’t know what to do or you don’t know where to start or you can’t do anything worthwhile.

You can.

You can always walk.

You can always drink more water.

You can always eat more fruits & vegetables.

You can always stretch.

You can always do something.

Because something is always better than nothing.

And as long as you do something and do that something consistently...no matter how simple it may seem...you will improve.

You will make progress.

You will get better.

It’s not a matter of “if.”

Simply a matter of time.

And fortunately for you and me...that’s exactly what we’ve got.

Massage, manual therapy and acupuncture deemed as not working for back pain.

A recent Aussie study has determined which specific exercises were the top treatments for reducing non-specific chronic lower back pain.

“They are active kinds of exercise where a clinician or a therapist is taking them through a program of exercise, where someone develops their confidence in movement ... and it helps that person to manage their fear of pain and learn that ‘If I do this thing it isn’t going to make my pain worse’.

This study reaffirms the positive role we play when working with someone living with chronic back pain.
