GASTROINTESTINAL ILLNESS
We have seen an influx of cases of gastrointestinal illness (vomiting and diarrhoea). The Metro North Public Health Unit is working to identify the cause and put in place extra measures to prevent further spread of infection.
The following information should assist in preventing further cases of illness:
Any person who is unwell with vomiting or diarrhoea should stay home until they have recovered and been completely well for a minimum of two (2) full days.
Washing of hands with liquid soap and water and drying them well after using the toilet, changing nappies, attending to ill people and before preparing or eating food are important hygiene measures.
Regularly monitoring children for signs of illness, especially if your child attends a childcare centre or members of your household are ill with gastro. Please keep unwell children at home.
Until the outbreak is over, avoid any outside gatherings, such as parties or play dates, where children may mix and share food.
Please see your doctor if you are concerned about your child's health. If the symptoms include vomiting or diarrhoea, it is requested that faecal and/or vomitus samples are collected for laboratory testing.
