5 Sinus Massage Techniques to Relieve Pressure & Promote Drainage

Feeling puffy, blocked, or heavy in the head? When your sinuses get inflamed, mucus gets trapped - leading to facial pressure, headaches, and that “I can’t breathe” feeling we all know too well.

Alongside humidifiers, warm compresses, and other remedies, gentle sinus massage can help encourage natural drainage and ease discomfort.

Here are 5 simple techniques you can try at home:

1️⃣ Frontal Sinus Pressure Point

Find the spot where the inner brows meet the top of the nose.
Apply very light pressure (like the weight of a penny) for 5–10 seconds or make tiny circles.
You may feel warmth or a light tingle — that’s a good sign.

2️⃣ Brow Pinch

Starting at the inner brow, gently pinch with your thumb and finger.
Move outward toward your temples, one soft pinch at a time.
Helps release tension around the eyes and forehead.

3️⃣ Maxillary Pressure Point

Trace down the sides of your nose to the top of your smile lines.
Apply light pressure or small circles for 5–10 seconds.
This supports drainage from the cheek area.

4️⃣ Maxillary Sinus Sweep

Press gently beside your nostrils, then sweep:
under cheekbones
toward the ears
up to the temples
across the brows
and back down the nose
Do 3–5 slow circles.

5️⃣ Frontal Sinus Sweep

Place four fingers on the inner brows.
Sweep upward and outward toward the temples.
Each time, move slightly higher on the forehead until you reach the hairline.

Remember: Sinus massage should always be gentle. Too much pressure can make things worse, so keep your touch light and soothing.

If congestion is chronic or severe, always check in with a healthcare provider.
