Watching your bub achieve milestones like learning to sit is exciting, and for us, it's a beautiful sign of how wonderfully their brain and body are communicating.

Here are some tips to help bub reach this milestone:

โœจ Offer opportunities: Give them heaps of floor time and encouraging spaces to move. Sometimes, a toy just out of reach is the best motivator!

โœจFocus on the process: Celebrate the effort and the wobbly moments - that's where their strongest learning and coordination happens.

โœจObserve their symmetry: When they are playing in a sitting position, notice if their head is consistently tilted or if they favour reaching with only one hand - it can be a gentle cue for underlying tension.

โœจSkip the "Propping": Avoid using special seats or pillows that force your baby to sit before their core muscles are truly ready. Their development thrives on them earning that stability themselves!

At ACCC, we see sitting as a window into their nervous system. We gently check your little one's spine for any lingering tensions (subluxations) from birth or early life that could be making coordination harder than it needs to be.

We're here to champion that amazing innate drive within your child to grow, move, and thrive! Our goal is to ensure they have the clearest pathway possible for development.

Is there anything more heart-melting than the fierce strength your baby shows when they curl their tiny fingers around yours? That involuntary squeeze isn't just adorable - it's the Palmar Grasp Reflex, a critical part of their nervous system development!

When your baby grasps:
1 Reflex Integration: This primal reflex is integrating, paving the way for those fantastic voluntary movements and fine motor skills later on.

2.Sensory Feedback: The pressure sensation provides vital input to the brain, building body awareness and helping them feel grounded.

3.Vagal Nerve Connection: The sense of security and connection is a powerful regulator. It calms their system, promoting rest and digest for better feeding and sleep.

So soak up the beautiful moments, and celebrate those tiny hands and the huge milestones they represent! ๐Ÿ’ž

Here are three practical, proactive ways you can help prevent your baby from developing a flat spot (plagiocephaly).

๐Ÿ‘ถTummy Time - this is the single most important activity. Supervised, frequent, short bursts of tummy time while your baby is awake takes the pressure off the back of the skull and strengthens the neck, shoulder, and back muscles. These muscles are essential for them to gain the ability to turn their head freely and eventually roll and crawl.

๐ŸŒ™Vary their head position during sleep times - subtly change the environment to encourage them to look in different directions. Alternate the end of the cot or bassinet where you place their head each night. Babies naturally turn their head toward stimulation (you, the door, a window). By switching the end, you encourage them to turn to the left one night and the right the next, distributing the pressure evenly.

๐ŸผAlternate feeding and carrying sides: Babies often develop subtle neck tightness or preferences based on the position they are held in most often.
- During Feeding: consciously switch the arm you use to hold and cradle your baby at each feed. This encourages them to turn their head in different directions to engage with you.
- During Carrying: Switch which hip or shoulder you carry your baby on. This promotes symmetry and balance in their body and encourages them to use both sides of their neck equally.

If you notice your baby always turns their head to one side, even when you try to encourage them otherwise, it's the body giving you a clear signal. This often points to muscular tension or a restriction (a subluxation) in the neck.

Plagiocephaly can be a common concern, with early detection and some simple strategies, you can help your little one build strength and improve their range of movement. At ACCC, we're here to support you on your parenting journey, and together, help your little one through every stage of their life! As written HSC exams finish up this week, a huge congratulations to the incredible young adults for making it through! ๐ŸŽ‰ It's a massive achievement, and no doubt you've all felt the rollercoaster of emotions.

After months of late nights, stress, and being hunched over textbooks, your young adult deserves a major nervous system reset.

Their body has been in high-alert, study-mode. That physical stress and constant tension - in the neck, shoulders, and back - doesn't just disappear with the final bell.

A gentle chiropractic adjustment right now can be a beautiful way to:
๐Ÿ“šRelease the physical tension from all that sitting and hunching.
๐Ÿ“šHelp their body shift out of "fight or flight" (stress mode) and back into "rest and digest" for true recovery.
๐Ÿ“šSupport their move into this next chapter feeling clear, comfortable, and ready for whatever comes next.

Itโ€™s an investment in their overall wellbeing and a perfect way to honour all their hard work.

Give our team a call to book a post-exam reset!

At ACCC we understand that nothing is more comforting to a little one than the calm presence and touch of their parent - it is one of the most powerful things you can do to support their care.

Thatโ€™s why a babyโ€™s adjustment isn't a solo act - it's a beautiful, co-regulated experience.

You will always be right there with your baby as we actively include you in the process. Just like Master J & his Mum during an adjustment with Dr Jacky last week.๐Ÿ˜

This isn't just about comfort; it's vital for their little nervous system! When you're relaxed and close, your baby receives those reassuring signals - itโ€™s like an instant 'all-clear' message to their brain.

We believe in nurturing connection in every single visit. You are their anchor, and we love honouring that bond! โค๏ธ

The countdown is on for all those gorgeous little ones starting 'big school' next year!

As kids start attending orientation and parents start ticking off the school supply list, we want to shift the focus slightly to nurturing the foundations of learning, especially their little nervous system.

When we talk about readiness, we often focus on fine motor skills: holding a pencil, using scissors, managing buttons, or opening their lunchbox. These skills are crucial, but they aren't just about hand strength! They are deeply connected to the state of your child's nervous system.

A well-regulated nervous system is the ultimate superpower for school. It allows your child to feel safe, calm their body quickly, and directs all that precious brain power to the task at hand - making those fine motor tasks flow naturally.

Readiness is about resilience, not perfection. It's about ensuring your childโ€™s internal systems are operating smoothly so they can tackle new challenges with curiosity and confidence.

We are here to help your child step into primary school not just prepared, but truly thriving. Contact us today to book your child's school readiness assessment.

Our Story

Your childโ€™s body is incredible. From two cells it has developed into the child before you today. Constantly changing and evolving, your childโ€™s little body moves in response to his/her external and internal environments.

When symptoms and problems come up, itโ€™s important to look at the whole body. To understand how its capacity to respond and rebalance has shifted away from optimal. That is what we do here at Australian Childrenโ€™s Chiropractic Centre. We help you to identify what might be going on.

Families find us through direct referrals and in many cases, after exhausting other options and not getting answers... then someone suggests they should come speak to our Chiropractors.

We provide Chiropractic Care for Babies, Infants, Preschool and Big School Children.
