Think you know OCD? Let’s separate fiction from fact.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions. Media often portrays it as quirky perfectionism or “being super clean”. In reality, for millions of people, it’s a deeply distressing condition that can significantly impact daily life.

In our latest blog for OCD Awareness Week, Beam Registered Psychologist Carli (Kedron Clinic) explores:
💭 What OCD really is (and isn’t)
💭 Common myths that need debunking
💭 How to support someone with OCD

Today is World Mental Health Day. This year Mental Health Australia is encouraging everyone to connect with the communities that matter to them.

A community can take many forms, friends, loved ones, clubs or groups.
At home, work, school, in your neighbourhood, or online, connecting with our communities can help us feel cared for and supported, which is good for our mental health.

Take a moment today to check in with someone, share how you’re really doing, or simply listen.

The panel provided an engaging forum to offer students insights into strength-based practice, family collaboration, and transitioning from study to professional practice. Delna and fellow panelists shared practical advice to support the next generation of Speech Pathologists.

Thank you to SPUN and The University of Newcastle, Australia for hosting such an engaging and career-focused discussion.

Every chat, no matter how small, helps build a more supportive and understanding society. Together, we can make a difference and prioritise su***de prevention, ensuring everyone gets the help they need.

Changing the narrative on su***de starts with us. By initiating open, honest conversations, we can shift from a culture of silence and stigma to one of openness, understanding, and support. Remember, you don’t have to face this alone.

If you or someone you care about is in crisis, support is available:

This week is Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness Week (BIEDAW) 2025, a national week dedicated to raising awareness of body image concerns and eating disorders.

Did you know that 1 in 10 Australians will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime? Understanding the many causes, such as trauma, culture, or co-occurring conditions, helps us respond with greater empathy and support. Creating safe and supportive spaces to talk about body image can make a real difference.

In our latest blog, Beam Registered Psychologist Carli Erwee (Kedron clinic) shares gentle ways to start conversations, recognise when someone may be struggling with body image, and offer support with care. 💛

It’s Speech Pathology Week and we’re celebrating the incredible impact speech pathologists make in people’s lives.

At Beam, our speechies support children and young people with their communication, confidence and connection. Every step of the way, they’re helping kids find their voices to thrive at home, at school, and in the community.

With around 1.2 million Australians needing support with communication, the role of speech pathologists is vital. Their work creates opportunities, independence and brighter futures.

We’re proud to recognise and celebrate the difference our speech team makes every day. 💛
