The Nervous System Knows

The nervous system holds every experience—both the ones we remember and the ones we do not.

When we move slowly, breathe consciously, and soften into stillness, we offer the body a different message: you are safe to let go.

Healing often begins in the smallest of softenings.

Thank you to all the beautiful souls who joined me this morning for our Restorative Yoga Immersion – Autumn’s Rhythms of Nature. It was truly a gift to share this gentle, nourishing space with you.

Together, we softened into the quieter energy of the season—honouring the natural invitation to slow down, release, and restore. Your presence, openness, and willingness to be still created a deeply supportive and heartfelt atmosphere.

As you move into the coming week, I invite you to continue staying in rhythm with what was cultivated during our practice. Notice the steady, grounded presence within you—the calm beneath the movement—and allow it to guide your pace, your breath, and your choices. Autumn reminds us that there is wisdom in letting go, and strength in softness.

May you carry this sense of ease and inner steadiness with you, returning to it whenever you need.

Listening to the Body

The body is always speaking—sometimes in sensation, sometimes in silence.

Tightness, discomfort, or fatigue are not problems to fix, but messages to receive. When we slow down enough to listen, we begin to understand what has been held, what is ready to soften, and what longs for space.

Yoga is not about forcing change. It is about creating the conditions where release can naturally unfold.

Sciatica

If you’ve experienced it, you’ll know it can be sharp, radiating, and deeply limiting in everyday life. Pain from the lower back, into the glutes, and down the leg can affect everything from movement to sleep.

But here’s something important: what’s often called sciatica may actually be piriformis syndrome.

The symptoms are very similar—aching, tingling, or shooting pain down the leg—but the source is different. In this case, the piriformis muscle (a small deep glute muscle) becomes tight or irritated and can compress the sciatic nerve.

The good news? This is something we can work with.

This week in class, we’ll be focusing on:
• Releasing tension in the piriformis
• Creating space and mobility in the hips
• Calming the nervous system’s pain response
• Restoring ease, stability, and support in the body

The practice will be slow, intelligent, and fully supported—no pushing, no forcing, just meeting the body where it is.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve received quite a few enquiries around sciatica pain—and how yoga can help. This kind of discomfort can be deeply unsettling, especially when it begins to affect daily movement, rest, and overall ease in the body.

Often, what we think is Sciatica (pain radiating down the leg from the lower back) can actually be something called Piriformis syndrome. The symptoms can feel almost identical—aching, tingling, or sharp sensations through the glutes and down the leg—but the root cause is slightly different.

Piriformis syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle (a small but powerful muscle deep in the glutes) becomes tight or irritated, compressing the sciatic nerve. The good news? With mindful, targeted movement, we can begin to create space, release tension, and invite relief.

This week in class, we’ll be gently exploring practices that focus on:
– Releasing and softening the piriformis
– Improving mobility through the hips
– Supporting the nervous system to down-regulate pain responses
– Rebuilding a sense of stability and ease in the body

As always, the approach will be slow, supported, and accessible—honouring where you are and what your body needs.
