Important reminder: the way music therapy is treated under the NDIS has not changed.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) was very clear in its statement:

"Any proposed changes will not come into force until the review is completed and the relevant findings are considered."

So, although the Independent Review of Appropriate NDIS Pricing for Music and Art Supports continues, music therapy remains an NDIS-funded therapy.

Plan managers should continue to pay for music therapy as usual.

NDIS participants can continue to access music therapy from any registered music therapist who is a member of AMTA.

🎨 Doug's Dogs is our new art exhibition, featuring artworks created by art therapy client Doug Apthorpe 🎨

Doug takes in dogs that are unwanted and abandoned, and tries to give them the life they deserve - and the life he himself was never given. His exhibition features three of these dogs - Oreo, Mr Rex and Lady Girl.

Doug would also like you to add to his exhibition! We have an art response wall where you can put your beloved pets up alongside Doug's dogs. If you have, or had, a pet or animal in your life that brings you joy and comfort, we invite you to add them to Doug's menagerie!

You may want to make an artwork like Doug has, write a few words, compose a song, or just print out a photo. You can create a tribute to a pet that has passed away, or one that is with you now. Pets are a huge part of our lives and our families, and mean a lot to us. Please show us your treasured pet!

🐶 Doug's Dogs will be on display in our foyer for the next month. You can drop in any time Monday-Friday 9am-5pm if you’d like to have a look! 🐶

IMAGE DESCRIPTION 🖼️
Three framed artworks suspended on a pale blue wall. The artworks all show a different dog - L-R Oreo (a black and white dog with a short snout and upright ears that flop a little at the tips), Mr Rex (a brown and white Jack Russell, painted with the dates 2005-2020 at the bottom), and Lady Girl (a gingery brown and white dog with a long snout and pointed ears, wearing a pink coat). A wooden sign under Mr Rex says "Doug's Dogs" in orange handpainted letters with a blue background and black outline. Doug (a man with long brown-grey hair, moustache and beard, a black shirt and khaki shorts) sits on a bright blue bench in front of the paintings, resting his hands on his cane and smiling.

Our Art Therapy team are now approved counsellors for Victims Services NSW, as part of the Victims Support Scheme (VSS).

The VSS offers up to 22 hours of counselling for victims of a serious crime that happened in NSW.

Approved counsellors are qualified and experienced health professionals that deliver counselling under the VSS. They can support you to manage and recover from the impacts of crime.

We have availability with our Art Therapy team during school hours on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Art Therapy sessions can be either in person in our Warners Bay clinic, or online via Zoom.

If you are a part of the VSS, you can fill out our referral form here: https://bit.ly/NMAT_ATReferral

If you'd like more information about the VSS, you can find it at https://victimsservices.justice.nsw.gov.au/how-can-we-help-you/victims-support-scheme.html

🎨 NDIS INDEPENDENT REVIEW 🎶

The NDIS Independent Reviewer, Dr Stephen Duckett AM, is inviting NDIS participants who are currently accessing Music Therapy and Art Therapy to contribute feedback on the effectiveness of Music Therapy and Art Therapy for NDIS participants.

This is an opportunity for you to have your say, and to let Dr Duckett know about the impact that Music Therapy and Art Therapy have had on your life!

🔴You can share your experiences with Dr Duckett by emailing participant.engagement@ndis.gov.au BEFORE 7 FEBRUARY 2025🔴
