There are so many treatment options, which one should I have?

The array of treatment options can appear a little overwhelming! At SCVI we do a full assessment of your veins with ultrasound prior to your appointment with Mr Scholtz Wiggett.

This allows us to obtain a full picture of your venous disease status and means that the most suitable option can be offered.

Medical grade compression stockings are commonly required after many of our treatments. These support the veins and allows treatments to work effectively by placing pressure on the veins.

Coming into the cooler months is a good time to think about booking vein treatments as it can be more comfortable wearing stockings when the weather isn't as hot.

Can I use my private health insurance?

Private health insurance generally does not cover outpatient procedures. There are some procedures which may be more suitable to having done whilst an inpatient and these operations/procedures may be eligible to be claimed on private heath insurance. It also depends on your type and level of cover.

An ultrasound to assess the veins followed by a consultation with Mr Scholtz Wiggett will help determined which procedure would be the most suitable. Eligibility to use private health cover can then be checked at this time.

If you would like to discuss this further please call South Coast Vein Institute on (03) 55625330 and we would be happy to answer any questions you have.

Itchy legs driving you crazy?

Stasis Dermatitis, otherwise known as venous eczema is an inflammatory skin condition associated with venous reflux.

Common in people with varicose veins, symptoms of stasis dermatitis can include itchy, red, swollen and flaking skin.

Diagnosis and treatment of underlying venous reflux will usually be curative for stasis dermatitis.

If your veins have been bothering you then it is quick and easy to have them assessed by using ultrasound and a consultation with specialist general surgeon Mr Wiggett.

Why do we get varicose veins?

There are many risk factors for developing varicose veins and one of the main reasons is genetics. Patients often have a family history of venous reflux disease.

Other contributing factors include pregnancies, occupational factors (prolonged standing), inactive lifestyle and weight.

Therefore some of these risk factors we can reduce and some we cannot control.
