Wauchope Community Arts Council

Wauchope Community Arts Council Wauchope Arts - arts from the heart The Wauchope Community Arts Hall is just that - community. We have a few hundred members who regularly attend our events.

Located adjacent to Bain Park in Wauchope (off Oxley Lane), it is one of the most intimate venues in the Hastings yet attracts acts of extraordinary quality. The hall is owned by Port Macquarie Hastings Council and is managed locally, for the council, by the Wauchope Community Arts Council Inc. This committee of volunteers oversees the use of this great community resource for arts performances, art house or documentary film nights, concerts, related activities and private functions. Our committee members have day jobs as teachers, nurses, disability workers, business owners, artists and musicians. We happily volunteer at Wauchope Arts because it enriches our lives, as well as providing an unusual experience for Wauchope and beyond. We don’t just put on events – we have also auspiced many fledgling groups and artists and work with other community groups on projects like the Tree Fiesta, which will now be an annual event. Members get discounts at every concert and free entry to our film nights. Membership numbers are growing as more people discover the magic of our gigs … and that travelling to Wauchope is not like crossing the Nullarbor!

On Saturday March 28th, ARIA Award-winning tabla virtuoso Bobby Singh is coming to Wauchope Arts Hall to promote his extraordinary new album Sutradhaar - a deeply collaborative and cross-cultural musical journey featuring some of Australia’s finest musicians and composed by his guru, Dr Aneesh Pradhan. Meaning ‘string-holder’ or ‘narrator’ in Sanskrit, Sutradhaar’s compositions were written by Dr Aneesh Pradhan and arranged Sydney-based jazz icon, Sandy Evans, before being recorded and woven together into a rich, genre-defying suite of music by a family of extraordinary musicians including Jeff Lang, Greg Sheehan, Lara Goodridge, Shenzo Gregorio, Ben Walsh, Zela Margossian and Tjupurru. The result is an album that transcends genre and geography, bridging Indian classical traditions, jazz, and blues, grounded by the deep resonance of Australian soil through the inclusion of the didgeribone.

Coming up next month on Sunday February 8th, join Monica Trapaga and The Pocket Trio for an afternoon of swinging jazz, good humour, and infectious energy.

One of Australia’s favourite entertainers, Monica brings her signature warmth, wit, and charisma to the stage, honed through her years with Play School, Pardon Me Boys, and Monica and the Moochers. She has described her “fairly crazy Latin family” as instrumental in developing her musical tastes and influencing her exploration of a range of contemporary styles performing with jazz, pop and big bands. A born entertainer, this veteran performer has covered a plethora of musical styles and settings, from lounge to swing and Afro-Cuban big band, delighting audiences.Joining her are The Pocket Trio; a feel-good jazz ensemble known for their tight arrangements and groovy pockets. They take inspiration from the classic piano trios from the jazz canon, from Oscar Peterson, Bill Charlap, Christian McBride, and Ahmad Jamal.

Hard to believe we’re already almost a week into the new year. Over the past year, Wauchope Arts Hall has been filled with music, stories and shared moments that remind us why this place matters. As we continue celebrating 30 years of Wauchope Arts, we want to sincerely thank everyone who bought a ticket, showed up, spread the word and supported live music in our community. A special thank you to the local artists who performed at our Summer Chai fundraiser, it was a beautiful night of local singer songwriters and the feedback from the audience said it all.

Your support keeps the hall alive, the lights on and the stage open for artists from near and far. It’s what allows this special place to keep creating unforgettable experiences for our community and beyond. We look forward to seeing you soon, with three amazing gigs coming up to kick off our 2026 program... Watch this space!
