It’s that time, when we reflect on the year that’s been, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful Pear community!

From your physiotherapy, exercise physiology, remedial massage and admin angel team, we’ve truly loved working alongside you to support your goals this year - whether that’s returning to movement, building strength in treatment, managing pain, navigating pregnancy and postnatal life, or simply making time for your health.

This year has been filled with small wins, big milestones (we turned 11!), consistency, setbacks, progress, learning and growth - and we feel privileged to be part of that journey with you.

Your trust in us, commitment to yourselves and openness is what makes Pear such a special place - both to work in and to move in.

We’re proud of the community we have built together and grateful to be surrounded by people who value evidence-based care, connection and long-term health!

Thank you for choosing Pear, for showing up (even on the hard days), and for being part of our year. We can’t wait to see what the next one brings 🍐✨

We’ve absolutely loved the Christmas spirit and how busy our classes have been all week, it’s been fantastic.

A special shout-out to our Golden Girls classes for all wearing their Christmas earrings, to our Mums & Bubs Reformer classes for being extra cute as always, and to all our generous and kind clients for the gifts to our team we have received this week, our hearts are very full.

And a huge thank you to our volunteer Cuddle Mums - Maureen, Lindy & Sheryl - for all the cuddles you’ve given this year. Our Cuddle Mums bring such warmth, calm and kindness to our pear studio, the care you offer our families truly matters. Thank you x

Today is International Day of People with Disabilities (IDoPwD)

At Pear, accessibility isn’t an add-on, it’s part of how we design, welcome, and care. Wheelchair ♿️ access and pram access is key across our studio, gym, clinic rooms and hydrotherapy pool.

From wheelchair-friendly access, to our low-light sensory treatment spaces, to individualised session adjustments, we work hard to make sure our environment supports all bodies and all experiences.

A big part of that learning has come directly from the brilliant clients and team around us. Our clients have taught us so much about what true accessibility looks and feels like, and Courtney who is an essential part of our team this month, supporting our RMTs team in the busy lead up to Christmas and as Michelle recovers - continues to support how we think, adapt, and create better systems every day.

We’re proud of what we’ve built, and we’re proud to keep learning. Today is a reminder of why inclusive spaces matter, and why we’re committed to doing this work with curiosity, respect, and care. x Esme

Feel them on the first day of advent. We support clients through oncology treatments everyday at Pear, and want to do what we can to keep the awareness raising happening - young women get cancer too!

Checking your breasts regularly helps you know what’s normal for you - and makes it easier to notice any changes early.

How to do it:
- with an open hand, make wedges, small circles and feel across and up and down your breast. Don’t forget to feel under your armpit too!

What to look out for:
- Lumps or thickened tissue, check under your armpit too
- Changes in size, shape, or skin texture
- Ni**le changes or discharge
- Any pain or unusual sensations

Early detection saves lives ♥️

Set a reminder in your phone, tell a friend, or make it part of your monthly routine

Diastasis Recti isn’t just “your abs separating.”
It’s a change in the tension of the linea alba - the connective tissue down the centre of your abdomen.

That’s why at Pear, we don’t focus on “closing the gap.”
We focus on restoring tension and strength through the linea alba itself so your core can transfer load well, support movement, and feel stronger.

Our approach to DR includes exercises that focus on strengthening the linea alba, not just the 6-pack muscles - as well as addressing how you are breathing + pressure management. We help you build strong, functional movement patterns, and get back to heavier lifting and loading to remodel the connective tissue over time!

A small gap can remain and still be perfectly functional >>>> tension is what matters.

How to Check for Abdominal Separation
1. Lie on your back with knees bent.
2. Relax your belly.
3. Place two fingers above your belly button.
4. Gently lift your head/shoulders in a small curl-up.
5. Feel:
• How many fingers fit
More importantly — what does the tissue feel like underneath?
• Soft or “sink-y”?
• Or firm and springy?
6. Repeat below and above the belly button.

If you’re unsure what you’re feeling, or want a personalised plan to rebuild your core, our women’s health exercise physiologists and physios at Pear can help you assess, understand, and train effectively for your diastasis rehabilitation.

At Pear, we are passionate about Women's Health! Our team provide services to support pregnancy, birth, menopause, cancer, pelvic pain, injury rehabilitation and surgical rehabilitation post mastectomy & hysterectomy. We support women through every stage of life, and our team of Exercise Physiologists, Physiotherapists, Remedial Massage Therapists & Nutritionists have additional training to work with Women. We recognise that there is a lack of support for women who experience injuries, illnesses or chronic diseases such as endometriosis or abdominal separation and want to help bridge the gap between diagnoses, acute rehabilitation and long term recovery and management. We hope to break down the barriers of taboo and stigma in Womens Health, by providing specialist services from our baby friendly studio, and helping all women to use exercise as medicine to improve their health.
