Did you catch our doctors in Melbourne at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) 2025 conference last weekend?

We were especially proud to watch Dr Jern Yee Chen take the stage and present her insights on allergic eye disease, including how to manage it well and how to catch tricky complications like shield ulcers and cataracts before they cause long-term problems.

We love seeing our team out in the world learning, sharing, and bringing that knowledge straight back to our patients.

Your eyes can tell you more than you think!

If your eyes feel a little drier, puffier, or if you’re seeing double, don’t ignore it.

Because Thyroid Eye Disease can sneak up quietly, but early checks make a big difference.

Most people know what dry eyes or pink eye are. But have you heard of uveitis? Or keratitis? What about thyroid eye disease?

These are types of Inflammatory Eye Disease (IED), and they can mess with your vision more than you think.

Symptoms may start small, with redness, sensitivity to light, blurry vision, or persistent eye pain.

This week is IED Awareness Week, and we’re helping you recognise the signs.

So if something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. See your optometrist and get checked.

Grandpa: “It’s just a quick job. Don’t need any gear.”

Also Grandpa: out in the backyard with a power drill, one sock on, no safety glasses, balancing on a garden chair like he’s auditioning for Australia’s Got Talent.

Legend. But also, a walking eye injury waiting to happen. That's why Home Eye Safety Month exists for a reason. DIY projects and “just a minute” jobs cause more eye injuries at home than you’d think — especially for older adults.

So this October, maybe gift Grandpa a nice pair of safety specs.

He’ll roll his eyes. But at least he’ll still have them. 🙄

From checking your phone in the morning to binge-watching a show at night, your eyes are working nonstop. And yet… most of us forget to give them the check-up they deserve.

Today’s World Sight Day reminder is all about making that change!

✔️ Book that eye test you’ve been putting off
✔️ Share this with someone who hasn’t had one in years
✔️ Support access to eye care for those who need it most

Somewhere in Australia, someone is waiting to see their child’s face clearly again. While some others are hoping to read, drive, or go for a walk without fear.

Donating eye tissue can make that possible.

At Eyemedics, we want to raise awareness and encourage more Australians to register as donors. Because the gift of sight is something too many people are still waiting for.

It’s easy. It’s free. And it can change lives. ❤️

Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is one of the leading causes of vision impairment in children. But here’s the tricky part: it doesn’t actually start with the eyes. CVI actually happens when the brain has trouble processing what the eyes see.

It can look like:
👀 Difficulty recognising faces
🌀 Trouble following moving objects
🚸 Struggling to navigate busy spaces

Because the signs aren’t always obvious, CVI is often missed or misunderstood, which is why Cortical Visual Impairment Awareness Month matters so much.

If your child is showing any of these signs, a visit to your local optometrist is a great place to start.

September is National Service Dog Month and we love talking about how amazing these animals are.

So, here are a few things you might not know about guide dogs in Australia…🐾

🦮 It costs over $50,000 to raise and train just one guide dog
📆 Training takes around 2 years before they’re ready to be matched with a person
🐶 Most guide dogs retire around age 10, and yes, they get to live the sweet life after
🇦🇺 Only 1 in 4 puppies make it through the full program (the others often become therapy or support dogs!)
🚌 Guide dogs are legally allowed everywhere their humans go, including on buses, planes, taxis and in cafés

That’s pretty pawsome, if you ask us.💛
