What the parent hears about their child’s play therapy session: I played today. What is actually happening: developing a life narrative; having experiences validated; experiencing a relationship with healthy boundaries; making the unconscious, conscious; resolving internal conflicts; having worth and value unconditionally acknowledged; having emotionally corrective experiences. Play is MEANINGFUL for children and is how they COMMUNICATE. The PLAY THERAPIST provides the relationship and security as the vehicle to move through all of these play experiences.
We created this graphic and quote based upon tens of thousands of play experiences with children. This is not a client quote.

There's another way to consider children who seek movement in the atmosphere of labels and disorders, and that's an adaptation to one's body and brain wiring. When an individual’s body needs to move, it’s a self- accommodation— often a way to seek to regulate beyond one’s conscious awareness. We should incorporate more opportunities for children and students to move as their bodies need in school settings and beyond. 🏃‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️

Learning to accept a loss, admit being wrong, apologize-- don't just happen instantaneously. They develop over time as children begin to learn how to self-regulate disappointment (and prediction errors).
