As Australians we should take great pride in what makes our country strong, acknowledge the varied backgrounds from which we come and hold a special place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We acknowledge our First Peoples who have cared for this land and survived as the oldest continuous culture on Earth.

Today, we recognise the enduring connection to country for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the strong bond of many other Australians to the land. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation, and the value of truth telling and learning from our history. We work every day towards a culturally safe profession underpinned by our values of accountability, excellence, collaboration, courage and respect.

Happy Diwali! The name Diwali or Deepavali comes from Sanskrit that translates to ‘row of lights’ and is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs all over the world.

During the festival, people exchange gifts and sweets with friends and family, eat delicious feasts together and decorate their home with lights and oil lamps (diyas) to symbolise the triumph of good (light) over evil (darkness) and bring prosperity to their home.
