Although every child develops at their own rate, there are a number of fundamental communication skills we expect children to learn by particular ages.

🍃Here are some signs that may indicate potential speech, language, or hearing difficulties in young children 🍃

If you recognise any of these signs, your child may benefit from early intervention services. Your child’s first two years of life are critical for learning new tasks, therefore the earlier services are accessed, the more likely children are to develop effective language and communication skills.

In group today we read “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”, a story about a cheeky tiger who ate ALL of Sophie’s food! During our book share we worked on:
🐅 Answering questions
🐅 Pointing out things we see
🐅 Using our imagination to guess what comes next

Swipe to see how we continued the theme of today’s book by decorating colourful cookies to take to tea! Our food play activity:
🐅 Supported fine motor development
🐅 Encouraged the exploration of new textures and flavours
🐅 Supported turn taking and communication with our peers

To finish off group, we got our bodies moving with ANIMAL YOGA! While pretending to be a lion, baby elephant and a big, tall giraffe, we worked on our coordination, balance and gross motor skills.

Group Time Sneak Peak 👀

Today we played with bugs in the mud! This activity provided our kiddies with so many learning opportunities!
See below some ideas for how to support your child's development with sensory play!
🍃 using tongs to support fine motor skills, hand strength and control
🍃modelling language including labelling insects, using action words/verbs (e.g jump, fly, swim, eat) and prepositions (e.g in, on, under, behind etc)
🍃supporting imagination and pretend play skills
🍃supporting social skills including turn taking with peers
🍃exploring new food smells, textures and flavours.

Why is it so important?

✨Play is critical for learning, development, and wellbeing.
✨Play helps children build confidence and understand the world around them.
✨Play supports language development and communication.
✨Play supports relationship building, social and emotional skills.
✨Play supports gross and fine motor skills.

Children's play changes as they grow with the development of attention, cognitive, social and physical skills.

Over time play will become more creative and imaginative. Children will also learn to play more interactively with others.
