Australia ranks first for equity and healthcare outcomes. Countries are ranked for their performance across five domains which are as follows:
-access to care
-care processes
-administrative efficiency
-equity and
-health outcomes
Although Australia has dropped from second-best performing system overall down to third-best performing system. They have fallen in the rankings for access to care and the care process but still rank first in healthcare outcomes and now rank first in equity. It's certainly not general practice that is affecting their ranking, general practice is leading the pack in terms of giving patients access and affordable care.
While the Australian healthcare system continues to rank well, there is room for further improvement, according to Dr. Michael Wright who is Chair of the RACGP Expert Committee โ Funding and Health System Reform.
