✨ Big conversations and real stories.✨
Yesterday was an exciting day for as we met at the electoral office to advocate for what truly matters, safe, effective exercise and better health support for mums.
I was joined by some incredible mamas and their little ones from our Mama & Me classes, bravely sharing real life experiences from birth injuries to the lack of quality pregnancy and postnatal care so many women face. These stories matter. 🤍
We also shared some facts that highlight the reality for Australian women:
• Women make up 80% of those living with incontinence
• Over half are under 50 years old
• 70% of people with urinary leakage never seek help
• 50% of women who’ve had a baby will experience prolapse, yet only 1 in 5 seek treatment
• 1 in 3 Australian women live with pelvic floor dysfunction
💡 The heart of the conversation:
Women, especially mothers, are often overlooked in national health and fitness initiatives, despite being the gatekeepers of their family’s health. When a mum is supported to move well and feel strong, the ripple effect benefits the entire family and community.
From pelvic health care and safe return to exercise guidance to access to evidence based programs, these investments don’t just support mums, they reduce long-term strain on our healthcare system.
Together with the wider MumSafe™️ Trainer network, I’m on a mission to ensure every mum has access to safe, effective exercise at every stage of motherhood so she can move confidently and lead by example in her home.
📢 We are advocating for three key initiatives:
✔️ Funded women’s health physiotherapy during pregnancy & postpartum
✔️ Funded postnatal exercise vouchers for all new mums, delivered by accredited & trainers
✔️ Standardised 6-week GP checks and midwife appointments
📊 Research consistently shows maternal health is a key determinant of child outcomes.
When mothers thrive, children thrive.
When they don’t, the impact can last generations.
By prioritising mothers’ health, we strengthen families, empower future generations, and build a healthier Australia. 🇦🇺
