Capecare

Capecare Capecare is a not-for-profit aged care provider recognised as a leader in the South West. We employ more than 260 staff and are assisted by over 60 volunteers.

We provide in-home care, respite, residential, independent living and allied health care services. Capecare is the largest regional-based independent aged care provider in WA. The organisation has grown significantly over the past 64 years whilst still providing personal attentive care. Our Busselton base has expanded from a 32-bed aged care hostel to a facility encompassing 50 independent living units, a Social Centre, Respite accommodation, Allied Health gym and residential care for up to 118 patients. Capecare now has a second fully integrated, purpose built aged care facility in Dunsborough, the first of its kind in the town. It features an 80-bed residential care facility and 21 independent living apartments and the headquarters of Dunsborough CWA branch. Both facilities are located in enviable beachside locations, and we also provide services in the community, delivering in-home care across the Capes. We continue to build on our history, experience and expertise to provide some of the most modern and forward-thinking aged care services available and strive to be the south west’s aged care provider and employer of choice. Capecare is a not-for-profit independent and incorporated entity and all funds generated remain within the organisation.

This wonderful and talented man is Capecare Community client Ron Smith, a regular visitor to our Social and Wellness Centres. Ron meticulously handcrafted this beautiful dollhouse and has generously donated it to Capecare to raise funds for our Social Centre.

You now have the chance to give a child the best ever Christmas present! We are running a raffle and tickets are available for purchase from the Volunteer office (just inside the front door of our Busselton reception area - 20 Ray Avenue Busselton) for $5 per ticket or three for $10.

The dollhouse is currently on display at Ray Lodge in Capecare Busselton, and from 24 November will be displayed in our Busselton Reception for a week.

Thank you Ron for this incredibly kind gesture.

Loneliness is an increasingly documented issue and can strike seniors particularly hard, impacting mental and sometimes physical health. Capecare actively strives to combat loneliness with a variety of lifestyle activities for our residents in Busselton and Dunsborough.

We recently signed up 8 of our Busselton residents to the Letters Against Isolation Program. Operating across Australia, the UK, the USA and Canada, Letters Against Isolation connects letter writers to older people via an anonymous online portal. The handwritten letters and cards are sent to our Lifestyle Team and distributed to residents who are suited to each letter.

This week, the postman arrived! Edie, Greg, and Sally (not pictured) received our first letters from the program. The letters talked about family holidays to go fishing, childhood memories, and many different hobbies and pastimes.

Thank you, Letters in Isolation and your volunteer writers, for making a normal day just a little bit more special for our residents.

Remembrance Day is an important occasion at Capecare when we stop to honour the courageous men and women who have served and died for our country.

Individual ceremonial events were held at each of our facilities and were well attended by residents and staff.

Special thanks to Volunteer Barton Hatherly for providing musical accompaniment, resident Bob Muirson for his recital of In Flanders Field, and resident Nikolaus Selheim for laying a wreath at the Dunsborough service.

Thanks also to Rev Graham Lawn for officiating in Busselton. He is a regular visitor to Capecare, providing our monthly Christian church service, and thanks also to resident Glenys Reynolds.

And special thanks also to our Lifestyle Coordinator Megan Snitch for organising these moving and important events and to our hospitality team for providing morning and afternoon tea.

Lest We Forget.

Today is International Volunteer Managers Day, an annual event, celebrated on 5 November, dedicated to recognising the vital work of Volunteer Managers. It’s a day to recognise and celebrate the profession of volunteer leadership and we're so fortunate to have had some amazing Volunteer Coordinators work with us at Capecare. Haley Massara joined us earlier this year and has been a great addition to the team, providing our dedicated volunteer team of 70+ with training, support and roster coordination. Pictured are just some of the many roles our volunteers play. Haley is always keen to recruit new volunteers for our Busselton and Dunsborough facilities, so if this sounds like you, please contact her at volunteers@capecare.com.au or call 9750 2000 and ask for her. Thank you Haley!

Australia's new Aged Care Act has now come into effect, introducing strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards. The Standards are a set of requirements defining what quality aged care looks like, and are designed to be more robust to ensure a safer, more consistent and person-centred care experience.

Find out more by visiting https://capecare.com.au/aged-care-quality-standards/ where we've provided a series of fact sheets to help explain the strengthened standards.

How good is Fish & Chip Friday? A trial of everyone's favourite Friday lunch was prepared by our in-house chefs and served to Capecare Ray Village residents today, and judging by the rave reviews it might just have to be a regular event! We had a great turnout of Independent Living residents to the Village Centre who enjoyed freshly cooked barra and chips, followed by pudding and custard, great company, and a day off from cooking. With our hospitality team now part of the Capecare family, this is the start of some tasty new initiatives.

With Support at Home launching on 1 November, Capecare Community Manager Lesley Cunningham has been busy! Not only is she working hard to plan for the changes, but also out and about in the community. She has an informative presentation on the changes being introduced to replace Home Care Packages for older community members living in their own homes. Yesterday Lesley spoke with an engaged audience of Capecare Independent Living residents in Busselton.

If you would like Lesley or one of her team to meet with your organisation email community@capecare.com.au or call 9750 2097.

This National Carers Week we acknowledge and celebrate the incredible selfless unpaid carers who support their family members or friends. Many of our Independent Living, home care and respite clients are able to continue to live at home thanks to the support they receive from their carers.

Capecare's Community team provides these carers with the back-up services they need, whether it be nursing care, domestic assistance or a simple social visit. This week, we encourage you to reach out to the carers in your life - check in to see how they are doing, offer them a break, acknowledge them, offer support and encourage self-care.

Capecare had the most joyous gathering last Friday, celebrating the lives of four cherished Community home care clients.

Coined as the inaugural ‘100 Club’, each of the four residents are still living in their own homes in and around Busselton with Capecare’s help.

Our 2025 ‘100 Club’ members attending the party at our new Community Centre are:
-George Ferris – 102
- Joan Harlow – 106
- Hubert Davies – 104
- Violet Hayter – 100

It was a joy to celebrate lives well lived, their wisdom and presence. Our community staff love spending time with each of these cherished clients and learn so much from them, and feel privileged to assist them to live well at home for as long as possible.

Thank you to Libby Mettam, Mayor Phill Cronin - City of Busselton, and Deputy Mayor Anne Ryan for joining us.
