Capecare

Capecare Capecare is a not-for-profit aged care provider recognised as a leader in the South West. We employ more than 260 staff and are assisted by over 60 volunteers.

We provide in-home care, respite, residential, independent living and allied health care services. Capecare is the largest regional-based independent aged care provider in WA. The organisation has grown significantly over the past 64 years whilst still providing personal attentive care. Our Busselton base has expanded from a 32-bed aged care hostel to a facility encompassing 50 independent living units, a Social Centre, Respite accommodation, Allied Health gym and residential care for up to 118 patients. Capecare now has a second fully integrated, purpose built aged care facility in Dunsborough, the first of its kind in the town. It features an 80-bed residential care facility and 21 independent living apartments and the headquarters of Dunsborough CWA branch. Both facilities are located in enviable beachside locations, and we also provide services in the community, delivering in-home care across the Capes. We continue to build on our history, experience and expertise to provide some of the most modern and forward-thinking aged care services available and strive to be the south west’s aged care provider and employer of choice. Capecare is a not-for-profit independent and incorporated entity and all funds generated remain within the organisation.

🎹 The Piano That Keeps Giving

When Ishbel Casselton visited her husband Bob at Capecare Dunsborough, there came a time when his ability to communicate with her began to decline. Determined to continue reaching him on an emotional level, Ishbel searched for another way to connect.

Bob had always loved music — especially listening to Ishbel play the piano. When Ishbel mentioned this to family friend Jason Cavallaro (pictured) during a visit from Perth, the conversation took an unexpected and generous turn.

“I told Jason I would love to get a piano for Capecare so I could play for Bob,” Ishbel said. “Without missing a beat, Jason replied, ‘You can have mine.’ I almost dropped on the spot.”

Soon after, Jason’s piano was delivered and given pride of place in the dining room of the Bunker Bay wing at Capecare Dunsborough.

The impact was immediate. When Ishbel began to play, Bob’s face lit up.

“Through the piano, we were able to continue using music as a connector right up until Bob’s passing,” she said.

Bob sadly passed away in January, but the gift of music continues.

Jason’s generous donation has touched not only Ishbel and Bob, but also residents, staff, and visiting family and friends throughout the Dunsborough community. Capecare volunteer Barton Hatherley now plays the piano during his Tuesday morning visits, and residents especially enjoy singing along to much-loved old-time favourites.

And this is no ordinary piano. Ishbel shared that the instrument originally came from the Japanese Embassy in Perth. The Ambassador’s daughters learned to play alongside Jason’s daughters, and when the Ambassador’s family returned to Japan, the piano was gifted to Jason — who has now generously passed it on to Capecare.

“It is a beautiful piano,” Ishbel said. “We are so lucky to have it.”

We’re proud to share that Capecare CEO Tim Nayton recently featured on the Pioneers of Aged Care podcast with host Anthony Nguyen.

In the interview, Tim talks about Capecare’s strong community roots, recent growth across our services and workforce, and how aged care is becoming increasingly skilled, holistic and meaningful work. He also shares our vision for the future, including expanding Support at Home services and planning the next chapter of our Busselton campus.

It’s a great insight into who we are, why we do what we do, and the role Capecare plays in supporting our local community.

A number of interesting admin roles are currently available at Capecare thanks to internal promotions and program expansion.

We are currently on the lookout for:

*Placement Coordinators – health care administrators looking for a change will enjoy this person-focused roll supporting, initiating and coordinating permanent placement options for our Time to Think program clients.

*Payroll Officer – a part-time (3 days per week) role supporting a payroll of over 350 employees. Experience in aged or healthcare, and award interpretation would be highly beneficial. Onsite (Busselton) preferred, however, remote/WFH considered for the right candidate.

*Community Clinical Services Lead - a full-time, new senior clinical leadership and governance role supporting Capecare's home-based aged care services. Lead, mentor and provide guidance to a broader team of clinical and allied health professionals.

Cycling Without Age is coming to Dunsborough and Busselton in 2026 and we're excited!

Capecare residents will benefit from this free service, connecting older people with limited mobility to their community and the outdoors through free rides on specially-built trishaw e-bikes piloted by trained volunteers.

Chapters of Cycling Without Age have recently started in Busselton and Dunsborough, and the Dunsborough team has applied for funding assistance via the City of Busselton - Local Government You Choose Grant. We'd love to see this up and running along our coastal paths and encourage friends of Capecare to vote to help purchase the first trishaw e-bike.

Use the QR code in the 2nd image to vote, or visit this link: https://yoursay.busselton.wa.gov.au/youchoose

Voting closes on 15 Feb.

A little pampering can go a long way 💇‍♀️☺️

Moving to Capecare in Busselton or Dunsborough in independent living or residential care doesn’t mean giving up the simple pleasures, like a regular cut, blow-dry or colour.

With on-site salons at both locations, our wonderful local hairdresser Chris has been helping Capecare residents look and feel their best for the past four years. With more than 40 years of hairdressing experience, Chris treats a regular list of residents by appointment and genuinely loves what she does.

“I’ve always loved working with older clients in aged care homes,” Chris says. “They’re lovely people, and everyone deserves the chance to be pampered and made to feel special.”

Feeling good never goes out of style 💙
