Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union

Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union Authorised by S. Beaman, Secretary, Queensland Nurses and Midwives’ Union, West End, 4101. Membership of the QNMU also provides for full membership of the ANMF.

The Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union (QNMU) is the peak industrial and professional organisation for nurses and midwives working in public and private health and aged care in Queensland. The QNMU seeks to promote and defend the industrial, professional, social, political and democratic interests of more than 70,000 members. Members include:

Registered nurses
Midwives
Enrolled nurses
Assistants in nursing (however titled)
Students
Anyone who undertakes nursing work

There is no other organisation in Queensland which provides comprehensive representation for nurses and midwives as both employees and professionals. The QNMU is a state-registered union and a branch of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF), which has branches in each state and territory, which means the Union is also active in promoting the interests of nurses and midwives on a national and international level. Members have the opportunity to be actively involved in the QNMU and decide our priorities through the Union’s democratic structure. Ultimately, it’s these priorities and policies which help influence and shape the practice of nursing and midwifery in Queensland. Nurses and midwives, through the QNMU, have a long and proud history of working together to achieve improvements to working conditions, to the profession and, through the broader union movement, to the lives of all Australians. Nurses and midwives continue to work together and pool their combined resources and knowledge to protect and further the common interests of all members. Find out more at www.qnmu.org.au

Cardiac rehabilitation isn’t optional. It’s lifesaving ❤️‍🩹

Up to 20% of patients with previous acute cardiovascular disease die within three years of surgery, and 40% are readmitted for a cardiac-related reason. That’s why what happens after surgery matters just as much as the surgery itself 💯

Nurses play a crucial role in delivering inpatient cardiac rehabilitation that includes 🚶‍♀️ mobilisation, 📚 healthcare and lifestyle education, and 🩹 wound management until discharge. Their work sets patients up for the long road to recovery.

On International Women’s Day, the QNMU proudly recognises the women who power our professions and our union.

This year’s theme is Give to Gain. When women give their expertise, leadership, advocacy and care, our workplaces, our communities and our health system all gain.

By standing together, supporting one another and championing equity, we continue to create safer workplaces and stronger futures for the next generation.

🤝 Do you feel supported, secure and respected in your role?

This is your chance to 🗣️ speak up.

At the QNMU, the direction we take is shaped by the real, lived experiences of our members. The Grow Your Voice Survey is your chance to share what’s really happening in your workplace – what’s working well, what isn’t, and where change is needed most.

Conducted every three years in partnership with the Queensland University of Technology, the survey reflects our commitment to hearing directly from you. Your experience is invaluable, and the insights you share directly inform our priorities, policies, and campaigns, and strengthen our advocacy for safer workplaces, fairer conditions, and better support for nurses and midwives across Queensland.

Every two minutes, a woman dies from complications related to pregnancy or childbirth.

Every 17 seconds, a baby is lost before birth, and each year 2.3 million newborns die within the first 28 days of life.

Many of these deaths could be prevented with more midwives.

But right now, evidence shows, the world needs one million more midwives.

Sign the petition and help the International Confederation of Midwives collect one million signatures to demand one million more midwives — and the investments needed to make it happen 👉 https://bit.ly/3ZWLihK
