These first stage rehab exercises help to promote healing of an initial pulley sprain, by encouraging gentle movement of the tendon that sits under the pulley.

These, coupled with management advice are often the first steps to getting back into climbing at your full potential.

There may be variability based on the grade/severity of the pulley sprain.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day - a day to recognise the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and to continue advocating for progress in areas that have long been overlooked.

Women’s health has not always been prioritised. But that is changing.

At Ascend Osteopathy x Performance, we are proud to have a dedicated Women’s Health osteopath with a special interest in perimenopause and healthy ageing - because women deserve to feel supported, heard, and strong at every stage.

If you are navigating midlife changes and want personalised support, book via the link in bio or through our website 📞 or call 9077 2992.

The number on the scale tells you your total weight.

But it doesn’t tell you what that weight is made up of.

Muscle mass, body fat percentage and visceral fat all influence:

💪🏼 Strength and joint support
🦴Bone health
🍬 Metabolic function
🔋 Energy levels
🩻 Long-term health risk

Two people can weigh the same, yet have very different health profiles.

At Ascend, we use Tanita body composition scans to provide a snapshot of these markers. It helps us understand your baseline and gives context to conversations around strength, movement capacity, and overall wellbeing.

Better data leads to better decisions.

We are not nutritionists or weight loss specialists. We don’t prescribe meal plans or physique programs. We can provide general lifestyle and dietary guidance, but the primary purpose of this scan is to inform safe, appropriate exercise and health planning.

👉 Book a body composition scan via the link in bio or through our website. 📞 Or call 9077 2992 to organise your scan.

Most women are told perimenopause is about hot flushes and mood swings.

But very few are told that muscle is the protective layer that determines how well you move, recover, and age.

From joint support and bone density to metabolic health and confidence - muscle is not optional in your 40s.

Muscle loss is common. But it is not inevitable.

If you’re noticing aches, weakness, slower recovery or changes in your body, this is your sign to get proactive.

At Ascend Osteo, we are proud to have a dedicated Women’s Health osteopath with a special interest in perimenopause and healthy ageing - women deserve to feel supported, heard, and strong at every stage.

Recurring patella subluxation

A patient presented with years of knee cap instability, no clear mechanism of injury, and unremarkable scans.

We first analysed movement using jump and hop testing to identify deficits in force production, control, and movement strategy.

Targeted strength testing then helped determine which muscle groups were contributing to the instability.

Rehab was simple, precise, and progressive — building from muscular endurance → strength → power.

With regular, standardised testing, progress has been closely monitored and necessary changes are made accordingly - this is how we achieve the best results.

If you need an injury assessed, don't wait! Book in to see one of our experienced osteopaths now.

We use a comprehensive range of assessment tools to build a clear, objective understanding of each individuals condition.

Objective, measurable data points allow us to determine whether real progress is being made, not just whether symptoms feel different. This enables informed decisions throughout rehabilitation and/or training.

Effective rehab and performance starts with knowing exactly what to address.

We don’t guess, we test.

Rehab IS training - it’s just adjusted to meet your body where it’s at right now.

The goal? Build capacity without unnecessary flare-ups. Progress with purpose, not guesswork.

There could be a small habit that’s affecting your recovery.

It might be your sleep 😴

Sleeping less than 7 hours each night increases your risk of injury by 70%

Athletes who average more than 8 hours of sleep are 61% less likely to get injured 💪

Tips before bed:
🚫☕️ no caffeine 10 hours
🚫🍔 no food 3 hours
🚫🙇‍♂️ no work 2 hours
🚫📱 no screen time 1 hour

Always injured or stuck in pain? It’s often not about being “weak” or doing the wrong thing.

It’s about capacity vs load.

👉 Capacity is what your body can tolerate right now - influenced by strength, sleep, nutrition, recovery, and stress.

👉 Load is what you’re asking it to do - training, work, sport, day-to-day life.

When load regularly exceeds capacity, pain and injury follow. When load is too low, progress stalls.

The goal isn’t rest forever or pushing through. Rather, it’s about finding the right balance and gradually increasing capacity over time.

If you’re not sure where to start, or you feel stuck guessing, that’s where a proper assessment helps.

Stop guessing. Start progressing.

🌟CLIENT SPOTLIGHT💡

This month we’re showcasing Darcy’s journey with Ascend Osteo. She’s been working with .maggieosteo for the last 12 months and has achieved so much within this time! Here are some words of reflection from Darcy:

“I came to Ascend as I’d dealt with years of shoulder pain looking for a long term solution. I’d seen allied health professionals in the past, however even after persistent treatment, my pain remained. I explained this to Maggie, and right away we came up with a plan together about how to increase my functioning and decrease my pain.

My goals initially were just to be able to move through the day without pain, and to get better sleep at night. Clinical exercise as well as treatment were key to my recovery and rehabilitation of chronic illness (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia syndrome or POTS), and this was the first clinic I’d been to that had emphasised movement as medicine, as well as encouraging me to believe there was improvement to be made, not just prevention of further deterioration.”
