Happy GCAD!! Today we celebrate who we are and what we do to within the health system.
As the application of genomic medicine in healthcare increases, people will need greater access to genetic counsellors. We are important allied health professionals that support you through your journey and find new ways to understand the impact of genetics in your health.

What Are Secondary Findings in Genetic Testing?

When you take a genetic test, you're usually looking for answers about a specific condition. But sometimes, the test uncovers other important health-related information—these are called secondary findings.

For example, you might learn about a genetic risk for a different disease, like certain cancers or heart conditions, even if you're not currently experiencing symptoms.

📌 These findings can be life-saving, giving you and your healthcare provider a chance to take action early.
📌 Not everyone wants to know about them—so many tests give you the choice to opt in or out.
