Today I participated in a Sunday morning voice update with the incredible Elle from Vocab Lab. I learnt how to use and teach the voice technique called “twang”. Twang can help us become more effective and efficient voice users. The strategy increases volume without increasing effort. I might have to keep working on my singing technique though!!

Exciting announcement!
Paula Ferrari is now the only Australian speech pathologist trained and certified to use the revolutionary MPI-2 stuttering program.

Since 2021, Paula has been working with Professor Janis and Professor Roger Ingham, who developed the MPI-2 program after decades of meticulous research.

Paula applied and was selected for the training due her extensive experience treating children and adults who stutter.

Paula is now one of only 10 clinicians in the world who can use this highly advanced and effective stuttering treatment. The MPI-2 program has strong evidence base that is also accessible via online therapy.

MPI-2 is a form of speech restructuring which requires the person who stutters to slightly adjust their speech pattern, with the help of highly advanced technology, including a specially designed app.

The MPI-2 technology is designed to enable the person who stutters to practice their stutter-free speech pattern effectively at home.

The MPI-2 program has 4 phases, including a 2-4 week period of intensive practice which is guided by the trained clinician, Paula.

I was surprised and excited to be included in this list of top speech pathologists in Melbourne for 2022. As Allied Health professionals, speech pathologists are all required to adhere to a high level of training, ongoing updating of our skills, and professional behaviour. Ideally we are all the best! However I am still delighted to have ticked some extra boxes. One of those standout features was the fact that I have trained in the MPI-2 program, the first clinician in Australia to do so. MPI-2 is the most recent, evidence based, highly effective treatment option for adults and adolescents (from the age of 14) who are affected by stuttering.

I’m working with a teenager atm who is finding the visual feedback incredibly helpful to apply the fluency shaping strategies. She’s working through the steps with me in person and online. Had a few days catching up on the latest research and therapy techniques at the Speech Pathology Australia National Conference. Rich Stephens, founder and president of Say Australia was a key note speaker. Lots of great data showing how young people who stutter can benefit from their fabulous program.
