To maintain the health of both staff and patients during this time we would like to advise all patients of the following:

• If you have recently travelled overseas, please ensure a minimum of 14 days before making appointments following your return
• If you experience any symptoms during this time contact your GP for medical advice immediately and follow guidelines as per the Department of Health WA https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/coronavirus
• if you have been in contact with anyone with a confirmed case of Covid-19, or someone with a high risk of a positive test, we ask that you do not attend the surgery until you have been cleared by a medical professional
• If you are feeling unwell or have had cold or flu symptoms, we ask that you reschedule your appointment until you are feeling better
• Good hand hygiene is important at the surgery and we ask that patients follow hand washing guidelines and when entering the clinic use the alcohol gel provided
• We ask that where possible you come alone to your appointment, unless parent or guardian is required
• We are practicing extra hygiene protocols within the surgery to ensure your safety

Dental implants have become the gold standard in replacing missing teeth. 🦷

Most often this involves a two stage process: the surgical placement of the titanium implant, followed by the prosthetic phase to place the crown which is undertaken by a specialist dentist, prosthodontist or periodontist. Implant rehabilitation and surgery is a complicated field of dentistry, and your oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the most capable person to carry out these procedures. 🔩

For more information please visit our website, or take a look at this video from AAOMS.

Newton decided to visit an oral and maxillofacial surgeon when his tooth pain wouldn’t go away. Watch his story about undergoing dental implant surgery.

OMS or dentist?

"Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the surgical specialists of the dental profession...While there is an overlap in their respective areas of care, it should be noted that the surgical and anesthesia scope of OMSs is beyond that of dentists. Put simply, when patients need attention beyond simple maintenance and repair, it may be time to visit an oral and maxillofacial surgeon." 👨‍⚕️

“When a theatre team is working together really well and we are treating each other with respect and we know each other’s roles, it’s an amazing feeling because everything is seemless.” A great clip from RACSurgeons reminding us of the importance of respect in a surgical setting. This is something we pride ourselves on here at Kings Park Day Hospital 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️🦷

It's National Nutrition Week 🍅🥕🥦🌽🥔
This year it's about trying for five serves of vegetables each day by learning to embrace your food waste! Although you may need to alter your diet when you have had oral surgery, food choices can still be nutritious and tasty.
Go along to Nutrition Australia for some advice on staying healthy.

13-19 October is all about how to try for five serves of vegetables each day by learning to embrace your food waste! Scary Stats Less than 4% of us eat our recommend five serves of vegetables a day and only 1% of children / teenagers! In fact, the average Australian eats eat only half that.

Take a look on our website to see a published case study on orbital floor fractures featuring our surgeon Dr Nathan Vujcich.

"A retrospective review of isolated orbital floor fractures at the Royal Children’s Hospital of Melbourne over a 10-year period was undertaken to evaluate the outcome of those patients who required surgical exploration."

Orbital injuries warranting surgical intervention are infrequent in the paediatric population, but ‘blowout, trap door’ fractures are unique in children and may constitute a relative surgical emergency. A retrospective review of isolated orbital floor fractures at the Royal Children’s Hospital...
