We at FNQH Cairns Integrated Melanoma Centre are very excited to announce that Dr Maria Reeves would be starting with us in early December and will be taking new patients. She will be offering Skin Cancer services only.

Dr Maria Reeves is a highly skilled and UK-trained doctor with an impressive 30-year tenure in the medical field. Renowned for her expertise in surgical procedures, Dr. Reeves received her initial training in the UK before honing her skills in skin cancer diagnosis and surgery through comprehensive programs in New Zealand and Australia. With over a decade dedicated to skin cancer medicine and surgery in both regions, she has emerged as a leading expert in New Zealand and Australia.

Dr Reeves is an accredited skin cancer doctor and member of The Skin Cancer College of Australasia. She is currently advancing her knowledge by pursuing a Master’s in Skin Cancer Medicine at the University of Queensland.

Outside the medical realm, Dr Reeves enjoys various leisure activities, exploring her passion for photography, and embracing the joys of travel. This multifaceted dedication reflects her holistic approach to life, balancing professional excellence with a rich and fulfilling personal life.

Melanomas and other skin cancers can occur in the scalp and they are usually found late due to hair cover and the inability of the individual to check the scalp. Found early - this can be cured easily.

Hair dressers usually play a very important role in finding these lesions. The scalp should be checked during a full comprehensive skin check.

We are very excited to share that FNQH- Northern Beaches Medical and Skin Cancer Centre has successfully achieved accreditation status, which is a big milestone for a fledgling clinic that has weathered a number of storms.

Thank you to Tarlia Rajeswaran and her team for achieving this. Our clinic now offers services covering all aspects of General Practice with caring doctors who take their time looking after you, and a world-class team to ensure everything is done to improve patient outcomes.

3D mole mapping - there is good evidence to say that Total Body Photography aka molemapping helps monitor your skin lesions, helps diagnose melanoma early and may help reduce unnecessary biopsies.

If you answer “yes” to any of the following questions, you need to ask your doctor if you need mole mapping.

1. Do you have more than 50-100 moles
2. Do you have a personal history of Melanoma
3. Do you have a family history of Melanoma
4. Previous Non Melanoma Skin Cancers
5. Compromised immunity
6. High risk skin type which burns easily
7. High risk sun exposure

The imaging takes 3 seconds and you will be provided with USB stick with your images. The doctor would be able to use the images to monitor your moles.

With a cloud based service coming shortly, you can share these images with your own doctor so he/she can use it to monitor your moles. Ask us how.

FNQH Integrated Melanoma Centre is the only privately owned centre to have this machine in FNQ.
