We'll keep you informed about events, educational opportunities and offer insight into our caseload community at Westmead Hospital. Welcome to the Westmead Caseload Midwifery page. Our page aims to keep you informed about community events, educational opportunities and offer insight into our Caseload community here at Westmead. We welcome all women and their families to our page. Westmead Caseload Midwifery promotes pregnancy and childbirth as a normal life event. We aim to provide you with continuity of carer, meaning you can know your midwife and develop a trusting professional relationship throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. Our Caseload Midwifery Practice consists of midwives who work together to help you have a smooth and safe journey through pregnancy to parenthood with minimal medical intervention. When it comes time for birth your midwife will discuss when to come to hospital and provide care and support to you during labour and birth. If you and your baby are well, you can be discharged home 4-6 hours after birth. Your midwife will visit you and your baby at home following discharge from the hospital. Home visits are provided for up to two weeks following the birth of your baby. If you are interested in Caseload for your pregnancy you should be:
• In good health, without medical conditions
• Planning to have a natural birth with no unnecessary interventions
• Prepared to go home with your baby between 4-6 hours after birth, if you are both well
• Living in Parramatta, Holroyd or The Hills Council Areas

We encourage you to contact us early in your pregnancy as we would like to begin your pregnancy journey and accommodate for your care. Sometimes our service cannot offer every woman a position in caseload however you will be referred to and benefit from one of Westmead’s other wonderful continuity clinics including our outreach and continuity clinics, where antenatal and/or postnatal care is offered by a known midwife. We are lucky to have Anna in our caseload team. Anna is a wonderful mentor to many students and early career Midwives as well as providing amazing care to the women in her Caseload
Some well deserved feedback from Abbey regarding Anna and our service 💜. Gorgeous babies 🥰

I wanted to take a moment to share some feedback about my recent experience with the Caseload program and, in particular, the exceptional care we received from Anna

This was the second time I’ve had the privilege of being supported by Anna through pregnancy and birth, and I truly cannot express how grateful I am. Having her by my side for both of my babies has been an incredible gift, I could not have done it without her.

Throughout both pregnancies, Anna made me feel heard, informed, and supported. I always knew she would advocate for me while also being realistic and clear about what needed to happen. Both of my births were not straightforward, and in those moments Anna brought the calm, reassurance, and advocacy that allowed me to make informed decisions.

In particular, my second birth was very different from what I had expected, yet because Anna was with me, I look back and would not change a thing. At no point did I doubt myself or feel uncertain, her presence made all the difference.

We are incredibly lucky to have access to a program like this, one that truly centres on women during one of the most vulnerable and important times in their lives. I feel so fortunate to have experienced it not once, but twice. Anna is second to none, and anyone would be lucky to have her as their midwife.

Thank you for providing such an invaluable service, and for having such extraordinary midwives like Anna on your team.

September stats and some feedback from our feedback survey:

“It’s the most supportive and caring way to give birth. The midwives advocate strongly for what we the mothers want our births to look like. They are so knowledgeable, you may see one midwife but the whole team is there to support you.”

A really special birth story to share today! 3rd year student midwife Miranda has been buddied up with midwife Hiru this year- a really special relationship to learn and be mentored and what a dream partnership they have been, caring for many families together this year!

I cannot begin to thank our midwife Hiru and student midwife, Miranda enough for their support, guidance and knowledge throughout my pregnancy 🩷

Throughout this journey, Hiru and Miranda were always there to answer any questions or concerns I had.

This being my second pregnancy with Hiru, it was so comforting seeing her again and having her apart of this journey with my family. Both my daughter and I looked forward to our antenatal visits, where my daughter would even help “Hiru and Aranda check a baby”. It was so nice to see her welcome to be part of the experience by both ladies 🥰

When it came to my birth, Hiru and Miranda truly empowered me and gave me the confidence to trust my body and do what it was meant to do. My first birth and labour had been quite long and a bit scary, so I was a bit doubtful when it came to my second pregnancy. But Hiru and Miranda were there to remind me that I was capable and that I could do it.

When we spoke about my birth plan I told them I was open to having a water birth (something I hadn’t considered in my first pregnancy).

When my contractions began at home, I let Hiru know and we stayed in touch the whole way through until we knew it was time to head to the hospital.

Upon arrival I felt nervous & even a little scared, but once I saw Hiru I instantly felt at ease & reassured that I was in the best possible care - with someone who knew what I wanted for my birth. The room was filled with candles while gentle, calming music played, further putting me at ease. After sitting on the toilet for abit, Hiru began to fill the bath for me, while Miranda checked baby. With each contraction getting stronger, my husband along with Hiru & Miranda, continued to reassure me everything was ok & that I COULD do it.

Finally, I got into the bath and in less than 15 minutes, our second beautiful little girl was born! ✨🥰 it was an incredible water birth and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience

Hiru and Miranda truly are incredible, and I couldn’t have asked for a better duo to support me and my family. They made me feel safe enough to trust my body and know that it was capable of amazing things.
It was the most incredible experience I’ve ever had, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

We were also super excited to learn that we were Miranda’s 30th birth on her placement, meaning she can now graduate from uni as a midwife - congratulations Miranda! 🥳🎓

Thank you, thank you, thank you again from the bottom of our hearts to both Hiru and Miranda. Hopefully we see you both again when we decide on baby no.3 🫶🏻🥰✨

A very special story from Sophie who was looked after by Zali 🤍

We’d love to give a huge shoutout and heartfelt thank you to our incredible midwife, Zali!
She helped me achieve the most beautiful birth of our son, Joey. Zali and I actually studied midwifery together at UTS, so when the opportunity came to have her support me during my second pregnancy, I didn’t hesitate.
After a complicated first pregnancy, with my daughter arriving 10 weeks early, I wasn’t sure what to expect this time around. But from the very beginning, Zali was simply amazing; incredibly organised, encouraging, and always my biggest advocate. She made every antenatal visit feel calm and empowering, and by the end of it, she truly felt like part of the family.
My daughter absolutely adores her. She would dance with excitement each time she got to listen to her baby brother’s heartbeat during our check-ups!
Zali knew I hoped for a waterbirth, and sure enough as soon as we arrived at the hospital in labour, she was already filling the bath and creating a calm, cozy space. I gave birth to Joey in the bath just 49 minutes after arriving! The confidence and reassurance she gave me during labour and birth were absolutely priceless.
It was SO special having Zali by my side she’s the most amazing midwife I know, and I’m so proud of her and the care she gives to every woman she supports.
