Horse shopping anyone?

When my clients are in the market for a horse I give them a task. (A technique I used to find my beautiful husband.. 😉)

Create 4 lists. Brainstorm…what is important to you….
1. in an ideal horse. The more specific the better,and be as fantastical as you like. Height, age, education, exposure, breed, type, confirmation, gaits, comfortability, colour, behaviour, trainability, sensitivity, personality, etc.
2. in a horse/human relationship.
3. in riding.
4. in competing. (If applicable)

Sleep on it and then put each list in order of importance. "If I can only have one of these attributes and no others what would it be?" "If I could have this and one other, what would it be?" And so on.

If you are in a position to, ride as many horses as you can to improve your clarity. The clearer you are, the easier it will be to forgo the less important traits and have the non negotiables fulfilled.

Now go hunting. Stick to your lists. It will take as long as it takes. Be observant, patient, and ensure you take another set of educated eyes with you.

Interestingly many factory made saddles we see have similar presentations. 😳🥺🥲😩😡😱

Make sure you check your saddles regularly. Investigate with your fingers, feeling for anything that may cause pressure or discomfort to your horse. 🧐🤔🕵️‍♀️
