We are excited to welcome Dr Tapiwa back to Bunyarra Medical Clinic!

Dr Tapiwa Mativenga, who was raised in Whyalla, graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2022 before returning to work in regional hospitals over the past three years. She previously spent time at Bunyarra Medical Clinic in 2023 as an intern and is delighted to be back for a six-month rotation as part of her journey towards becoming a rural generalist.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family, singing, dancing, cooking, and taking part in the local parkrun.

Cervical screening is an essential tool in preventing cervical cancer – but many people are unsure if, or when, they need a test.

This Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we've teamed up with RANZCOG to develop a guide to help you understand who needs screening, when to see a GP, and how often a Cervical Screening Test is recommended.

The Cervical Screening Test checks for human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes almost all cases of cervical cancer. Detecting HPV early saves lives by helping prevent cancer before it develops. You can choose to have a healthcare provider collect the sample using a speculum and small brush, or you can self-collect the sample using a small swab. Both options are equally as accurate at detecting HPV.

Heatstroke happens when the body temperature rises above 40.5 degrees Celsius. Immediate first aid is needed to lower the body temperature as quickly as possible.

To treat heatstroke:
• If you notice symptoms in yourself or others, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
• If the person is unconscious, do not give them aspirin or paracetamol
• move them to a cool area and keep them still
• give them small sips of fluid.

If you can, bring their temperature down by:
• sponging them with cool water
• putting them in a cool shower
• spraying them with cool water from a garden hose
• soaking their clothes with cool water
• placing cool packs around them.
