๐Ÿ’› Connection at the Heart of Community Health ๐Ÿ’›

Have you caught our latest article in the Winchelsea Star?

Staying socially connected plays an important role in keeping both our minds and bodies healthy, and itโ€™s something we at Hesse continue to support across our local communities.

From social support groups and community outings, to walking groups and the Winchelsea Community Foodbank, our programs are helping people build friendships, stay active and feel a part of something meaningful.

To learn more about how weโ€™re strengthening social connection across the region, read more on page 3 of The Winchelsea Star.

Updated Visitor Restrictions:
As we are currently caring for residents with Rhinovirus in Chelsea Lodge and Werruna, our Outbreak Management Response has been enacted and we have reviewed our visitor restrictions.

We continue to implement infection control precautions across the site. This includes the following visitor restrictions in place for all residents:
โ€ข 2 visitors daily per resident

All visitors must:
โ€ข Present to the main entrance first;
โ€ข Wear a surgical mask at all times (N95 masks also available);
โ€ข Wear further PPE if visiting a positive resident.

Contact with residents directly is also welcomed, or arrange a virtual visit through Reception. Well residents also remain able to leave our facility.

Rhinovirus is one of the most common causes of the common cold, spread through sneezing, coughing or physical contact. It usually causes very mild cold or flu-like symptoms. Some people have a greater chance of severe illness from rhinovirus, including those living in aged care. Good hygiene practices can stop the spread of rhinovirus.

We offer a huge thank you to our families, residents and consumers for their understanding and patience during this time. We remain committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents and consumers.

What are the Staff IICARE Values Awards?
Hesse Rural Health values Innovation, Integrity, Caring, Accountable, Respect and Excellence as a workforce and encourage all employees to deliver the best care to our community with these values in mind.
Each quarter staff can nominate their peers whom they believe have done an outstanding job at embodying a particular value, the nominations go to a committee to select a value award winner for each quarter, and then an overall winner each year.

๐Ÿšจ Two new measles cases have been reported in Victoria, with a number of exposure sites along the Great Ocean Road.

Anyone who has visited a listed exposure site during the dates and times specified should monitor for symptoms of measles and follow the instructions provided. Symptoms can include fever, cough, runny nose, sore or red eyes, followed by a red rash.

๐Ÿ“ Find the most up to date listed exposure sites here: https://www.health.vic.gov.au/health-alerts/measles-public-exposure-sites-victoria

There is an ongoing risk of measles in returning travellers from overseas or interstate. Anyone planning to go overseas should make sure their routine vaccinations are up to date, including the MMR vaccine. Vaccination is recommended at least two weeks before departure.

If you were born during or after 1966 and havenโ€™t had two doses of measles vaccine, or youโ€™re not sure if you are fully vaccinated against measles, speak to your local GP or pharmacist about getting your vaccinations as soon as possible. The Barwon Health Vaccination Centre in Belmont can provide vaccinations to those requiring urgent vaccination.

For more information for health professionals, and for details around vaccination see the latest advisory from the Chief Health Officer here: https://www.health.vic.gov.au/health-alerts/new-measles-case-in-victoria-4

For information on measles including symptoms, those at risk and vaccination see the Better Health Channel here: https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/measles

๐Ÿ’› Celebrating Our Volunteers ๐Ÿ’›

We celebrated our dedicated team of volunteers in December with a thank you lunch. It was great to see many of our volunteers gather together to connect and share stories with one another.

We officially recognised the long-term contribution of Don Smith and Ray King who have retired from volunteering with Hesse. Our programs and services are enhanced by the dedication and contribution of all our volunteers, and we thank them for their hard work.

We're always on the lookout for new volunteer team members โ€“ if you have a friend or family member that you think would make a great volunteer with Hesse โ€“ please encourage them to contact reception by email: reception@hesse.vic.gov.au by phone: (03) 5267 1200 or by dropping by at 8 Gosney Street Winchelsea.
