I see so many little faces carrying burdens they shouldn’t, tiny shoulders weighed down by decisions they didn’t make, and it breaks me every time. Motherhood has shown me that my job isn’t to pass my struggles onto them, but to hold the weight for both of us, to shield their innocence while I wrestle with the adult pieces myself. Their laughter, curiosity, and wonder are fragile treasures, and I remind myself daily that they deserve freedom, joy, and space to be children. The healing, the responsibility, the mistakes—they’re mine to bear, so their hearts stay light, soft, and safe as they grow. 💛

My kids have been given permission to deal with bullies however is necessary to keep them safe-I'll handle the aftermath.

Because I'm not raising kids who will stand there and take it. I'm not teaching them to be passive when someone is physically or emotionally hurting them. I'm not telling them to go find a teacher while they're being pushed, hit, or verbally attacked. Their safety comes first. Always.

So yes, I told them: if someone puts their hands on you, defend yourself. If someone is hurting you and no adult is nearby to help, do whatever you need to do to stay safe. Don't just stand there and take it while you wait for someone to intervene.

Some parents might disagree. They might think I should teach them to walk away, to ignore it, to always seek adult help first. But in the moment? When a bully is in their face? Walking away isn't always possible. And sometimes adults aren't around to step in fast enough.

I'd rather my kids defend themselves and face the consequences than stand helpless while someone hurts them. I'd rather deal with a phone call from the school than get a call saying my child got hurt because they didn't fight back.

So fight if you need to. Protect yourself. I'll deal with whatever comes after.

Your safety will always matter more than the rules.
