On a recent drive into the outback my husband and I came across the grave of Fred Hollows in Bourke. Despite being born in New Zealand his wishes were to be buried ‘under the Coolabah tree in Bourke . His egalitarian principles drove him to improve and restore the sight of the Aboriginal people in the surrounding area in the 1970’s and his pioneering techniques that he refined and standardised would expand to deliver the same outcomes to the impoverished people of the world for which he is famous
Some months later we found ourselves in the eye clinic at the Prince of Wales hospital where Fred Hollows practised and it was like going back in time as the decor was as if he had walked out yesterday !
The same amazing level of care still very much apparent .
What an incredible legacy that still
Lives on today🌸

Today, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice and service of our ANZACs. We remember those who gave so much and reflect with gratitude.

Lest we forget.

Last week, we stepped behind the scenes at our lens lab, Essilor—and it was nothing short of eye-opening. From raw materials to finished lenses, witnessing the precision, technology, and craftsmanship up close gave us a whole new appreciation for the detail behind every pair.

It’s moments like these that remind us just how much expertise goes into delivering clear vision every day.

April is Eye Health Awareness Month.

Make this the month you prioritise your eye health!

It’s easy to forget to check in on our eyes, yet they play such an important role in how we navigate the world each day.

Your vision supports how you work, learn, connect and experience life, and giving it the attention it deserves is an important part of maintaining overall wellbeing.

If it’s been a while since your last eye exam, now is a great time to book a check-up.

Eye Health Tips!
Children may not always display or communicate changes in their vision clearly, which is why it’s important to know what to look out for.

Some common signs can include:
👀 Squinting or rubbing their eyes
🤕 Headaches after reading or concentrating
📱 Holding books or screens very close
📖Losing their place while reading
📝Avoiding close work

If you’ve noticed any of these behaviours, a simple eye exam can help identify potential vision concerns that may impact learning.

Swipe through to learn more about each sign and book an eye test today.

Let’s talk about Dry Eye Awareness! 👀🐪

It's important to notice when your eyes are showing signs of dryness. Dry eyes can be uncomfortable and when left untreated, can lead to irritation, affect vision, and cause potential long-term effects. 😥🫣‍

Follow our tips to look out for the signs and be sure to follow up with a comprehensive eye exam. Book online at www.windsoroptometry.com.au/contact-us or call us on (02) 4577 3471
