Congratulations to the Benalla All Abilities footy team on their nomination for Community Group of the year in the Benalla Australia Day awards. A very well deserved nomination and recognition of the great work they do 🏆

Congratulations to our All Abilities Team! 🤍🖤

We’re incredibly proud to share that the Benalla All Abilities Football Program has been nominated for Community Group of the Year.

This program has made a huge impact by creating inclusive, meaningful sporting opportunities for people with disabilities.

A massive thank you to Shane Richardson, whose tireless volunteer work, passion and leadership have brought this program to life — running free programs, finding sponsors, and ensuring every participant feels welcomed and valued.

Seeing the joy, confidence and pride on our players’ faces, especially at carnivals, says it all. The All Abilities team is now a valued part of the Benalla All Blacks family, fully embraced in club traditions.

If you can, we’d love to see as many All Blacks tops there as possible to show our support!

Some important advice here!

💨⚠️Smoke and air quality update

EPA Victoria is forecasting very poor air quality over the next 24 hours due to smoke.

Smoke can irritate your eyes, nose and throat, and may trigger asthma or worsen heart and lung conditions. You might notice coughing, sneezing or congestion - in most healthy adults these symptoms should ease once the smoke clears.

To protect yourself and your family:
✅ Keep an eye on the air quality via EPA Victoria (epa.vic.gov.au/check-air-and-water-quality.)
✅ Stay indoors when it’s smoky and keep windows and doors closed
✅ Use a damp towel to seal gaps under doors if needed
✅ Turn off air-conditioners that draw air from outside
✅ When air quality improves, open windows and doors to ventilate
✅ Consider a P2, KN95 or N95 mask if you need to be outdoors

Please take extra care, especially if you have existing health conditions, and check in on those who may be more vulnerable.

Stay safe and look after each other. 💛

🌡️ Too hot at home? You’re not alone. MPHN is here to help you stay cool and safe during this week's heatwave.

We’ve partnered with local councils across the Murrumbidgee to bring you a comprehensive list of Cool Spaces. These are air-conditioned public venues and shaded outdoor areas where you can escape the heat.

Whether you need a break from the sun or a safe place to spend time with family and friends, our Cool Spaces Directory makes it easy to find a location near you. From libraries and community centres to shaded parks and swimming pools, there are options right across the region.

👉 To view Cool Spaces near you, select your LGA here: https://mphn.org.au/cool-spaces

If you can, check in on neighbours, friends or family who might be doing it tough in the heat. A quick call or visit can make a big difference. 💛

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe - extreme heatwave warning for our region, building across Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.

Extreme heat can be dangerous for everybody, but there are steps you can take to stay cool.

✅Close blinds and shut windows early to pre-cool your home.
✅Stay cool using fans, air con and/or cold showers.
✅Avoid going out unless you have to and go early if you do.
✅Make a plan to check on elderly family, neighbours, friends, and anyone living alone.
✅Drink plenty of water and keep a full bottle handy when outside.

Know the signs of heat-related health problems. These include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, headaches and rapid breathing.

Extreme heat can affect anybody and can trigger dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, life-threatening heat stroke, heart attack and kidney impairment.

If you need medical advice or someone you know is unwell, call Nurse-on-Call on 1300 60 60 24 for 24-hour health advice, see your doctor or contact Virtual Emergency Care – for non-life-threatening emergencies.

In an emergency, always call Triple Zero 000.

Some valuable advice here to help you prepare for the severe heat expected this week. Stay safe everyone and please check in with family/neighbours

Severe weather is expected across our network from Wednesday to Saturday this week (7 to 10 January).

It's time to get power prepared.

Temperatures of over 38 degrees and high or extreme fire danger ratings are anticipated from Wednesday to Friday.

Thunderstorms and high winds exceeding 90km/hour are also forecast on Thursday 8 January in Bairnsdale, Wodonga, Benalla, Traralgon, Seymour and Lilydale.

On extremely hot days, the electricity grid can be under a lot of pressure. We plan ahead for summer but outages can still happen.

For tips on how to prepare for an outage and stay comfortable during one, visit: www.ausnetservices.com.au/outages

• If your power goes out, check Outage Tracker for the latest restoration times: www.outagetracker.com.au
• Life support customers, please be ready to activate your emergency plan. Call our priority line anytime on 1800 818 832.
• Check on your neighbours to see if they’re ok – especially if they’re vulnerable or sensitive to heat, like the elderly, or families with young children.
• If you have an electric water pump, stock up on bottled water.
• Fill an esky with ice in to keep your food and drinks cool
• Keep your pets cool and indoors if you can. Leave a bowl of water outside for local wildlife.
• Charge your battery packs so they're ready to power your mobile phones
• If you’re in immediate danger, call 000. For emergency services, call the SES on 13 25 00.

Please stay safe and share this information with friends and family.
