Before the school year gets busy, take a moment to check your child’s school shoes.

Correctly fitting footwear plays a big role in keeping growing feet healthy, comfortable, and injury-free.

At Border Podiatry Centre, we often see children with foot, knee, or leg pain that can be linked back to shoes that don’t fit or support their feet properly.

Signs school shoes may not fit properly:

* Complaints of sore feet, ankles, or legs
* Red marks, blisters, or worn-down toes
* Tripping more often or avoiding activity
* Shoes looking worn on one side

What to look for in a good school shoe:

* Enough toe room without excess slipping
* Firm heel counter for stability
* Supportive sole that bends at the toes, not the middle
* Proper width for your child’s foot shape

Children’s feet grow faster than we think, and a quick check each term can make a big difference.

📅 Not sure if your child’s shoes fit correctly? Book an appointment with Border Podiatry Centre and start the school year with confidence and comfort. Call us on 60245577.

Back to School Starts with the Right Shoes!

As the school year begins, one of the most important (and often overlooked) checklist items is **properly fitting school shoes**. Growing feet need the right support to stay healthy, comfortable, and pain-free.

At Border Podiatry Centre we see many foot and leg problems caused by shoes that are too small, too big, or lacking support.

*Why correct shoe fit matters:*

* Children’s feet can grow quickly and unevenly
* Poorly fitting shoes can lead to heel pain, blisters, ingrown toenails, and posture issues
* Supportive shoes help with balance, comfort, and all-day activity

*Shoe-fitting tips for parents:*

* Check shoe fit every school term
* Allow about a thumb’s width at the toe
* Look for firm heel support and flexible forefoot
* Avoid “room to grow” shoes that are too big

If your child is complaining of sore feet, legs, or tiredness, or if you’re unsure about shoe fit, our podiatrists are here to help.

This week we’re celebrating all things foot health because healthy feet mean a healthy, active life!

Here are 7 simple tips from the team at Border Podiatry Centre to help keep your feet in top shape...

1️⃣ Check your feet daily – Look for cuts, redness, swelling or changes in nails.
2️⃣ Wash and dry thoroughly – Especially between the toes to prevent infections.
3️⃣ Moisturise – Keep skin soft, but avoid applying lotion between the toes.
4️⃣ Trim nails carefully – Straight across, not too short, to prevent ingrown nails.
5️⃣ Wear the right shoes – Supportive, well-fitting footwear helps prevent pain and injuries.
6️⃣ Don’t ignore pain – Soreness, heel pain or numbness isn’t normal — get it checked early.
7️⃣ See your podiatrist regularly – We’re here to keep you walking comfortably and confidently!

This Podiatry Week, take a moment to appreciate your hard-working feet. They carry you through life every day!

📍 Visit us at Border Podiatry Centre for expert care, advice and treatment for the whole family.
