We were thrilled to sponsor the Healthier Illawarra Men lunch in honour of International Men's Day. It was a fun and engaging event with a serious message about raising awareness of men’s health and well-being and encouraging open discussions about mental and physical health.

At South Coast Private Hospital, we are committed to supporting initiatives that promote wellness and encourage positive change. Particularly those that aim to help break down the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and contribute to a healthier future for our community.

A big thank you to all involved in organising a successful event with such a powerful message. Let’s continue working together to support men in our community towards better mental health!

Today on Remembrance Day we pause, reflect and honour those who have served our country in wars, conflicts and peace keeping operations. We pay tribute to their bravery, service and enduring legacy.

We also acknowledge the families and communities who have supported them and those still living with the impact of service today.

At 11.00am we pause to remember them.

Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time, worrying either about the future, current or past events - it's perfectly normal. In fact, 1 in 10 of us will experience anxiety symptoms.

For some, the anxiety or fear is more frequent, intense, persistent and at times excessive in relation to everyday life. When these anxious feelings become difficult to control or interfere with everyday life, or are out of proportion to the actual threat, treatment can help and go a long way towards improving your quality of life.

🎨 Featured Artist Spotlight – Art as Healing

We are proud to regularly showcase the work of our patients created during their stay with us.

These beautiful artworks capture the essence of how creativity supports mental health:

“I love painting with bright and vibrant colours. I mainly use inktense pencils and watercolour paint to achieve the look that I love and a feeling of having brightened my day. Art is my medicine and my creative power rolled together. I draw and paint daily as it calms my mind and creates a zen-like mental space, both while I'm doing it and for hours afterwards.”

We believe in the therapeutic power of art to provide comfort, expression and healing. Through our art room, our patients find ways to build confidence and connect with themselves in meaningful ways.

🎙️ New Podcast Episode Alert II Understanding PTSD in First Responders, Veterans and Defence Personnel: Why Specialised Treatment Matters

In this insightful episode, host and clinical psychologist Gabrielle Sivertsen is joined by Dr Al Griskaitis, Director of Trauma Services at South Coast Private Hospital and clinical psychologist Allira Watts, Trauma Programs Coordinator at South Coast Private Hospital.

Key highlights include:
▫️ Understanding the unique challenges and identity struggles faced by this group
▫️ Why specialised treatment programs, including EMDR and other therapies, are essential for effective recovery
▫️ The vital role of GPs in early identification and intervention
▫️ How structured hospital programs and supportive environments can significantly aid recovery
