Movember Check-In 🥸

It’s not just about growing a moustache - it’s about starting conversations men often avoid. Back pain shrugged off as “just age,” digestive discomfort put down to stress, or fatigue dismissed as nothing serious can sometimes mask bigger issues. So those growing a mo’ this November shine a light on men’s health. Book those lifesaving health checks, and invest time into the healthy habits (exercise, nutrition, sleep and mindfulness) that underpin your continued health and wellbeing.

Need help getting moving again? We've got just the thing! Our resident Wizard Lachlan runs a "Staying Active" Men's only, over 50s Strength and Fitness Class. 📞Give us a call on 02 4207 9960 to enquire

Bloated, crampy, or just feeling “off” in your gut? Digestive discomfort isn’t only about what you eat - it’s also about how your body moves and responds to stress. Ugh – but what can we do about it?

Osteopaths may use visceral manipulation, a gentle hands-on approach to ease tension around the organs and surrounding tissues. The goal is to support gut motility — no, not mobility (though we get why you’d think that😉). Motility means the wave-like muscle contractions that move food and fluid along, a bit like your gut’s conveyor belt🚚. These rhythms can slow if the muscles become tight, if nerves regulating digestion are under strain, or if stress disrupts the body’s natural balance.

Alongside this, breathing exercises to calm the nervous system and holistic advice on diet and stress may help support your gut’s rhythm🧘‍♀️🌿

Understanding Pain: Acute vs Chronic

Pain is the body’s way of signaling that something needs attention, but not all pain is the same.

Acute pain is short-term, often sharp, and linked to a specific cause such as a sprained joint or strained muscle. It usually fades as tissues repair.

Chronic pain is pain that lasts. Chronic conditions may keep pain signals active even without ongoing injury. This persistence can affect sleep, mood, and overall quality of life, creating a cycle that is difficult to break.

Osteopaths take a whole-body approach when working with pain. For acute injuries, treatment may involve gentle manual techniques to support mobility and reduce muscle tension while the body heals. For chronic pain, care often extends to helping patients understand their pain, identifying movement patterns that might be contributing, and offering strategies to improve function. Osteopaths may also discuss exercise, stress, and lifestyle factors that can influence how pain is experienced.

If you’re living with ongoing discomfort, it may not have to be your new normal. Call us on 02 4207 9960 to make an appointment with us today and let’s see how we can help 👐

Lest We Forget

On this Remembrance Day, we reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who served, and honour the lives given in the pursuit of peace. We also recognise the families who carry their memory, and the generations shaped by their strength.

At 11am, we pause in silence to remember.

What is Scoliosis continued... Causes & Curve Types
🤔What causes scoliosis? Most cases are idiopathic—meaning the cause is unknown. But it can also stem from birth defects, neurological conditions, or genetics.
🌀Scoliosis curves aren’t one-size-fits-all! They can be:
• Single thoracic (mid back) curves
• Double curves
• Even complex triple or quadruple patterns
🎯Understanding curve types helps tailor treatment and support.

Most people have heard of Scoliosis... but what is it?
🌀Scoliosis is a condition where the spine curves sideways—often forming an “S” or “C” shape.
👶It usually shows up during growth spurts before puberty and can range from mild to severe.
⚠️Severe cases may cause posture changes, discomfort, or even breathing issues.
⏰Early detection is key! Regular screenings and awareness can make all the difference.

Did you know Pilates can support spinal alignment for those with scoliosis?
🤔Using techniques from Scoliopilates, Pilates can promote spinal alignment for those with scoliosis. This includes:
• Propping to support proper positioning and alignment
• Elongation to create space in the spine
• Breathing to enhance awareness and control

Posture Check: Are You Sitting Yourself Up For Trouble?

Desk warriors, beware! Prolonged slouching or leaning forward can silently stress your spine, tighten muscles, and even make breathing less efficient 😮‍💨
Over time, poor posture habits can lead to neck, shoulder, and back pain.

✨ Take regular mini stretch breaks
🖥️ Adjust your chair, screen, keyboard and mouse so your spine stays neutral
💪 Ensure good core control when sitting

Not sure if your setup is putting you at risk? Or how to engage good core control? Book an assessment today! You can find the link to book via our website🔗in bio!

Muscles Aren’t Magically Strong 👉 They Need Fuel!

Your muscles do the heavy lifting… literally. And like any engine, they need the right fuel to work and recover:

🍳 Protein – builds and repairs fibres
🐟 Omega-3s – calm inflammation after workouts
🥛 Calcium & Vitamin D – keep bones strong so muscles can pull hard
🥑 Magnesium & Potassium – stop cramps stealing the show
🌈 Antioxidants – help muscles bounce back from stress.

Pair smart nutrition with movement and physio, osteo or massage, and your muscles will thank you.
What’s your muscle fuel? Share your favourites in the comments 💬👇

Movember: More Than a Moustache

Growing a ’mo isn’t just for show! Movember is all about sparking conversations on men’s health - especially those issues that are too often ignored; prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health are front and centre, but did you know movement plays a huge role too? 🏃‍♂️

Regular physical activity helps regulate hormones, improve circulation, boost mood, and support recovery after illness. Physiotherapists, osteopaths and exercise physiologists work with men at every stage. It may be easing joint pain that keeps you from exercising, supporting post-surgery rehab, or tailoring safe programs to stay strong and mobile.

This Movember, look after the whole picture: mind, body, and movement. Call 02 4207 9960 to book your appointment today. And have fun growing a mo’!

Word of the Day: Ischium (Sitting Bone) 🪑

Your sitting bones are working overtime and you might not even know it! Officially called the ischium, this bone is the lower part of your pelvis that bears your weight when you sit and anchors muscles like the hamstrings and adductors (inner thigh).

Tight or weak muscles around the ischium can make sitting, running, or squatting uncomfortable. Your practitioner may use targeted stretching, strengthening, soft tissue techniques, and movement guidance to ease tension and improve function.

Feeling the burn after sitting too long? Share your experience in the comments, or call 02 4207 9960 to book an appointment.
