Maktub Biodynamic Farm

Maktub Biodynamic Farm This relatively small area provides the family with honey, eggs, lamb, fruit and vegetables.

Maktub Biodynamic Farm is a sanctuary for people and wildlife, a place where you can find stillness, reconnect with nature and take time to rediscover the magic of living simply. A very comprehensive bio-dynamic vegetable garden which has evolved (in 25 years) from a blackberry infested paddock with a house and shed and one sapling gum tree under the guidance of Chrissie and Michael Rowland. Chrissie’s Italian heritage on her father’s side and her Mother’s love of herbs and flowers instilled in her a connection with the earth and gardening at a young age. Her study of homeopathy and interest in Rudolf Steiner’s writings on agriculture sparked her interest in herbs and their culinary and medicinal use as well as in maintaining the garden using biodynamic principles. Miniature pony, “Winnie the Pooh”, and a worm farm contribute to the richness of the garden while Dutch Bantams provide help with pest control in the berry patch and veggie garden. Bees do their work in pollination as well as providing the family with honey. We happily welcome by prior arrangement Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOFers) and HELPX to share our piece of paradise .

One of our guests left a heartwarming review, saying: "Dreamiest, quaintest little house I've ever stayed in + If Peter Rabbit's treehouse was built for humans this is what I picture it to look like." They adored the peaceful ambiance, the lack of TV, and the cozy wood fire. The guest also loved the breathtaking views, the vibrant indoor plants, and the charming sound of chickens clucking in the morning. Chrissie, the host, was friendly and respectful of their privacy. The guest is eager to return for a longer stay. Visit https://www.booking.com/Pulse-YCir58 to see for yourself!

Cleopatra gave birth to a healthy boy and girl just before 2:00 pm yesterday. Such a privilege to witness nature and the innate magic of animals.

Take the plunge with me—because every drop counts!

Cancer has touched the lives of my family and friends in ways that are heartbreaking and life-changing. Some have fought bravely and survived, while others we have lost far too soon. Right now, loved ones are enduring intense, life-saving treatments, and others are holding onto hope in remission.

Throughout August, I’ll be braving Tassie’s icy waters (less than 12 degrees!) with regular chilly dips to raise much-needed funds. It won’t be comfortable, but it’s nothing compared to the fight that so many face every day.

If you can, please support my challenge and be part of this incredible cause.

A vibrant Autumn day in the garden, filled with endless possibilities. My chook companion helping me tend to the thriving beds.

The warm weather has triggered an explosion of growth in our winter veggies - cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, peas, broad beans, silverbeet and spring onions.

The last remnants of Autumn leaves cling on, a kaleidoscope of colour.

As we harvest the final tomatoes and chillies for our homemade chilli sauce and kasundi, and basil for our winter pesto supply, the promise of a bountiful season is fulfilled.

Meanwhile, the winter forage salvias burst into bloom, providing a haven for birds and insects.

We have some last minute vacancies for May.
