Supporting your recovery through Telehealth ๐Ÿ’™

The way we access care continues to evolve and Telehealth is becoming an important part of supporting people during and after cancer treatment.

For many, getting to appointments can be difficult whether due to fatigue, reduced immunity or needing to stay close to home.

Telehealth helps bridge this gap, allowing you to access care from the comfort and safety of your own space.

As we explore in our blog, Telehealth can also support continuity of care and help you stay on track with your recovery.

Through Telehealth, we can:
๐Ÿ’ฌ Check in on how youโ€™re feeling
๐Ÿคธ Guide your rehabilitation exercises
๐Ÿ“Š Monitor and manage symptoms
๐Ÿ“š Provide education and support
๐ŸŒฟ Help you build confidence in self-management

Itโ€™s another way we can stay connected and support you wherever you are.

Today is World Lymphoedema Awareness Day ๐Ÿ’™

Lymphoedema remains an under-recognised yet prevalent condition that can occur when the lymphatic system is affected; we often see Lymphoedema following cancer treatment involving lymph node removal or radiation.

While it is a chronic condition, early awareness and proactive management can make a significant difference. In many cases, Lymphoedema can be prevented and there are measures that can help reduce its severity and support long-term management.

Compression garments are one of the key tools used to manage Lymphoedema, helping support lymphatic flow and reduce swelling. Many people are surprised to learn that compression garments come in all shapes and sizes, designed to suit different body areas and individual needs.

To learn more, read our latest blog: Compression Garments for Lymphoedema on our website. ๐Ÿ’ป

๐Ÿ’™ Lymphoedema Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’™

Compression garments are a key part of lymphoedema management.

When properly fitted and prescribed, compression garments help manage swelling, maintain treatment results, and support comfort in daily life. But not all garments are the same - type, compression level, fit and timing all matter.

๐Ÿ“ Circular knit vs flat knit
๐Ÿ“ Day vs night garments
๐Ÿ“ When to wear them
๐Ÿ“ How to care for them
๐Ÿ“ Why professional fitting is essential

Understanding your options is empowering and the right garment can make a significant difference.

โ€œI'm very enthusiastic about wearing my compression stockings.โ€

Not something we hear often but for our patient, David, theyโ€™ve become part of his routine.

After developing leg lymphoedema following treatment for prostate cancer, compression was initially just another adjustment. Over time, with the right fit and support, he began to notice less heaviness and found it easier to stay active and walk longer distances. ๐ŸŒฟ

Compression garments play an important role in managing lymphoedema, but they can lose effectiveness over time which is why itโ€™s important to have them checked and updated by a professional approximately every 6 months to ensure they continue providing the right level of support. ๐Ÿ’™

Old compression garments donโ€™t have to sit in the back of a drawer.

This Lymphoedema Awareness Month, join us for Project Garment Glow-Up - a creative community workshop led by artist Paula Broom, where worn compression garments are turned into a shared art piece that will be permanently displayed in our clinic. This event is about raising awareness for lymphoedema care while also highlighting the importance of appropriate garment replacement and ongoing management.

Bring along an old garment if you have one and be part of making the invisible visible ๐Ÿ’™

Following DIEP flap reconstruction, the abdominal wall requires careful rehabilitation. Recovery isnโ€™t just about healing the incision, itโ€™s about gradually restoring strength, stability and overall function in a safe, structured way.

Our DIEP-specific Pilates classes gently support abdominal healing, rebuild deep core and upper body strength, improve posture and breathing, and restore functional movement all within a small, closely supervised group setting.

The focus is guided progression, individual attention and helping you feel confident in your body again, at a pace appropriate for your recovery stage. ๐Ÿ’™

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’™

Lymphoedema can affect daily life in ways that arenโ€™t always openly discussed. It may impact comfort, mobility, confidence and overall quality of life.

The risk doesnโ€™t necessarily end when treatment finishes.

Symptoms can include:
๐Ÿ”ท A feeling of heaviness or swelling in the legs
๐Ÿ”ท Tightness or discomfort
๐Ÿ”ท Changes through the lower abdomen, p***c or ge***al region

Lymphoedema is a long-term condition but early identification and appropriate management can make a meaningful difference.

Support may include:
โœ”๏ธ Education and screening
โœ”๏ธ Manual lymphatic therapy
โœ”๏ธ Compression garment prescription
โœ”๏ธ Individualised exercise therapy

If youโ€™ve noticed any of these symptoms, we can assess, guide and tailor treatment to support you.

Proactive care matters. Early support matters. ๐Ÿ’™

Getting back to yoga was a big goal for Giorgia ๐Ÿ’™

After undergoing a bilateral DIEP breast reconstruction, returning to yoga initially felt out of reach due to tightness through the abdominal wall. With regular physiotherapy support, including lymphatic massage, soft tissue release, and an individualised home-based exercise program, Giorgia was able to get back to what she loves doing.

A positive functional outcome achieved through structured, ongoing care. ๐ŸŒธ

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’™

Lymphoedema is a common and often under-recognised side effect of cancer treatment.

For people treated for ovarian and other cancers, changes to the lymphatic system can occur following surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, sometimes developing months or even years later.

We support people living with or at risk of lymphoedema through a multidisciplinary approach, including:

๐Ÿ”น Physiotherapy - supporting lymphatic flow, swelling management, movement, strength and long-term function.

๐Ÿ”น Massage therapy - gentle, specialised techniques to support swelling, tissue comfort and relaxation.

๐Ÿ”น Exercise therapy - individualised movement to support circulation, strength, confidence and daily activity.

๐Ÿ”นCompression garments - assessment and prescription of medical-grade garments to support ongoing management.

Our focus is on supporting comfort, function and quality of life, at every stage of recovery.
