The Lymphatouch is a common tool we use to support recovery following surgery, radiation or lymphatic disruption. It’s a device that uses gentle negative pressure to help stimulate lymphatic flow, reduce swelling and improve tissue mobility. 🌿

This technology allows our physiotherapists to provide precise, targeted treatment to sensitive areas such as the head and neck region, improving comfort and supporting tissue healing throughout recovery.

It’s a safe, effective, and evidence-based tool that can make a real difference in comfort and recovery. 💙

We offer the Lymphatouch treatment as an add-on to physiotherapy sessions. If you’d like to learn more about this device or try it during your next appointment, please email ✉️ info@orsi.au or call 📞 02 8018 8240

Last week Orsi attended the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) conference - an event focusing on the future of cancer care, held this year in partnership with the International Psycho-Oncology Society.

She returned feeling inspired and reassured: the vital role of allied health in cancer recovery is being recognised more than ever.

Key topics of presentations & posters included:
🌸 Menopause after cancer
💪 Exercise to prevent cancer-related lymphoedema
🔍 Investigating symptoms & lifestyle risk factors reported by cancer survivors
💬 Fear of cancer recurrence
🌱 Developing life long self-care strategies for LE prevention
🤝 Novel peer to peer support initiatives for patients with head and neck cancer
🌿 Integrative oncology & wellbeing

This knowledge strengthens the way we deliver care grounded in evidence & empathy. 💙

Compression garment check: why it matters before summer ☀️

As temperatures rise, many people notice increased lymphoedema symptoms. Ensuring your compression garment is still effective is one of the key ways to stay comfortable and supported through the warmer months.

A physiotherapist can assess whether your garment still fits correctly, needs adjustment, or should be replaced. A well-fitted garment means better symptom control, less swelling and more freedom to enjoy the season. 💙

Now is the ideal time to review your garments and ensure you’re set for summer. If you’re due for a review, you can book an appointment online or call (02) 8018 8240.

Professional development is a key part of how we continue to refine and elevate our patient care.

Catriona had the opportunity to shadow Dr Mark Malouf during procedures for varicose fragilities, gaining deeper insight into the factors that can contribute to swelling, heaviness and discomfort in the lower limbs.

Experiences like this and through ongoing collaboration strengthen our clinical understanding to ensure our approach remains aligned, evidence-based and centred around the needs of our patients.

Why consistency matters in rehab 💙

Exercise therapy plays a key role in reducing stiffness, improving strength and helping patients move with confidence again. When exercises are completed consistently, recovery is smoother, strength improves and daily tasks become easier as functionality is restored.

After a DIEP reconstruction even small abdominal movements can feel challenging. As their rehab has progressed, this patient is now able to perform this sit-up variation with gradually improving ease and control.

Consistency is the real driver of progress. 💪✨

Last week’s art workshop, hosted by the talented Paula Broom, was such a wonderful afternoon. It truly flew by! 🪡 📸

We love being able to host events like this, giving people a chance to slow down, connect, and express themselves creatively.

It was lovely to see everyone chatting, stitching, and enjoying the calm energy that filled the room. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make it such a special afternoon. 💙

Our team regularly comes together to share knowledge, discuss new techniques, and explore the latest technologies that can enhance patient care. 💡

We hold regular in-service meetings to learn from others in our field, explore emerging research, and discuss how innovations like this can be integrated into clinical practice.

A recent session featured a demonstration of the TEO (Therapeutic Electrostatic Oscillation) device - a therapeutic tool designed to support tissue recovery, reduce swelling, and promote healing. ⚡

We also had the opportunity to explore new compression garment options, trying them ourselves gave us a better understanding of how different designs and materials can support comfort, movement, and recovery for people managing lymphoedema.

Every session is a reminder that growth comes from curiosity and collaboration and that continuing to learn helps us give our patients the very best care possible. 🤝 💙

Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day - BRA Day 💫

Breast reconstruction isn’t essential but it’s a choice many people make after breast cancer.
Guided rehabilitation helps patients restore movement, strength and comfort so they can return to daily activities and the things they love doing.

We see the difference early physiotherapy and tailored exercise make after surgery. From regaining shoulder movement and reducing swelling, to rebuilding confidence in movement; these are the milestones that shape recovery.

Shown here is a home exercise program for 2 weeks after DIEP flap breast reconstruction, highlighting how small, functional and guided movements build confidence and ensure a faster return to activities of daily living.

BRA Day is a reminder of the value of informed choices, collaboration, and guided care throughout every stage of recovery, no matter the type of reconstruction. 💙
