𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐲’𝐬 𝟔𝟎-𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤! ⏱️ If you’re anything like me, you spend half your day at a desk or behind the wheel, and the other half trying to lift heavy things. That combination can absolutely wreck your upper back and shoulders.

When you're stiff, it actually makes your Strength Training harder and less effective. This 60-second stretch for your Thoracic Spine is a game-changer. It's not about being super flexible; it's about being able to move safely and comfortably in your every day life.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐱 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐟 𝐔𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬:

1. 𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐩: Lie on your side, knees bent at 90 degrees, hips/shoulders stacked.

2. 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐬: Extend arms forward, palms touching ("closed book").

3. 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞: Slowly open the top arm toward the floor behind you, rotating the chest. Keep knees glued together!

4. 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝: Hold the gentle stretch for 3 deep breaths (about 15 seconds).

5. 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐭: Return to start. Do 3–5 reps per side.

Tim & Stacey here. We wanted to talk honestly about why we started S&T STEPS.

Before this studio, both of us had big journeys just to get healthy (Tim lost 50kg+, Stacey 20kg+). We started from a deeply self-conscious place. We knew the fear of walking into a commercial gym where you felt judged, uncomfortable, or worried about being ridiculed.

Tim especially battled serious depression and anxiety, which made the idea of stepping through the door feel impossible sometimes.

That experience is why this studio exists. We got sick of the money-making machine of the fitness industry that didn't care about people, just profit. We vowed to build the opposite place.

This is a space where you are safe. Where your personal struggle is understood, and the focus is on achieving health that works for your actual life.

Good Morning, Yarra Ranges! Stacey the Sports Therapist here with your Monday Morning Fix!

As a Remedial Massage Therapist, I know those stiff mornings can derail your entire week. Instead of ignoring it, take 60 seconds to try this simple stretch:
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦:

Tight hip flexors (psoas) from sitting, driving, or heavy training.

This tightness pulls on the pelvis, leading to unnecessary lower back pain and poor posture.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐱 (𝐇𝐨𝐰-𝐓𝐨):

Start in a kneeling lunge position (place a pad under the back knee).

Gently tuck your tailbone forward and squeeze the glute on the side of the knee that is down, you should immediately feel a stretch in the front of the hip.

Raise the arm on the side of the knee that is down and gently lean away from the stretched hip for maximum release.

Hold for 30 seconds on each side.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭:

Instantly relieves tension in the lower back and pelvis.

Improves hip extension, which is crucial for a stronger squat and a more efficient running stride.

Leads to better overall posture throughout your training week.
