Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre

Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre Through being with horses and nature we provide a safe place for people of all ages to explore mental health therapeutic support outside of a clinic room.

We provide a client centred approach by bringing a number of therapeutic elements together. Julie founded Chantilly Park Learning and Wellness Centre after training in Psychotherapy and discovering the therapeutic power of working with horses to address her own trauma and grief. Formerly a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute for 22 years, Julie decided to utilize her skills in building rapport and creating safe spaces in a new, unique setting. She is a Clinical Soul-Centred Psychotherapist (registered with PACFA & ASCP) and one of the first in Australia to earn the internationally recognized Certification of Equine Interaction Practitioner in Mental Health. Julie is supported by a herd of 10 horses, a team of chickens, a barn cat named Sooty, and Mo, a lap dog. The human team includes Courtney and Laura, who bring extensive experience in Family Services and other complementary training. The team have completed training with:
• Certification Board for Equine Interaction Professionals™
• Centre of Equine Experiential Learning
• Australian Equine Facilitated Learning
• Psychodynamic Equine Assisted Trauma Therapy

More if the benefits from being with horses 🥰🥰🥰

If you allow your body to settle & then take time to notice what you are experiencing.

Then notice where in your body you are sensing that experience🐴💫🐴

Exchanging breath with some of our horses can be such a heart felt grounding experience that is difficult to put into words.

We have some wonderful offerings on the horizon so keep an eye out 🥰🥰

It’s 12yrs today that I facilitated my first Equine Assisted Therapy session outside of a training!

Since that session, I purchased what is now Chantilly Park with renovations inside out out done, horses settled in herds and the passing of some valuable members of our team 🥰

We have helped 100’s of people, we have grown in team members (both 2 & 4 legged) and I have grown as a person as a practitioner and as a mum. There have bee SO many ups and downs throughout this time but that is the ebbs and flow of life and what allows us to appreciate the good parts 🙂

Take a moment to appreciate the ebbs and flows of YOUR life and appreciate what you have around you.

For all those that have supported this journey and our work - thank you 🥰🥰🥰🥰

One of the many benefits from being with a horse allowing your body & mind to settle in that moment.

Then taking the time to notice what you are experiencing in your body in that moment, acknowledge it and be grateful🐴💫🐴

Horses are Masters at creating boundaries.

They can teach us a thing or 2 on boundaries 🥺🥺

Bella and Tilly are modelling their boundary in this photo 🤣🤣🤣

I LOVE this outline of what a Boundary is!

I have to say I still struggle with “Do what is best for you” At times……what about you?

Are you good with boundaries?

Watching people open up and evolve warms my heart.

This post popped up in our memories & it is one of my favourite sessions captured in photos (which doesn’t happen often) ☺️

People often ask what is a session with horses like?

Truth is Sessions vary from client to client and no 2 session are ever the same.

In this session a young client had had a bad day at school.

So they got their lead rope and we went and invited Syrup to join us under the Mulberry Tree 🌳

Syrup happily came. As she leaned into her favourite spot to be brushed, our clients breathing changed and you could see them start to release the stress of the day.

We were quickly joined by Chief a few feet behind us & then beautiful Honey joined us to add extra support 😍😍😍

The horses actions & reactions are always deliberate. Noticing what they are doing and bringing that to the attention of our clients can be empowering.

After this we identified what they were now noticing in their bodies & it was “calm” ☺️

As I didn’t know what calm meant for them I asked them to describe it. “Calm” to them was a “quiet happy” that they noticed mostly in their legs and mind, we decided to draw an image for them to take home. This helps anchor that feeling in their body.

We took the halter and lead off Syrup to let her leave while we drew. However the beauty of “free will” with partnering with the horses the way we do is Syrup knew her work was not complete. She came and stood with the client until most of the picture was finished.

As Syrup meandered off, Sooty appeared in perfect timing 😺

I just love the interaction between our animals and clients 🥰🥰🥰

This is a great visual of the window of tolerance.

I only learnt about this concept in my late 20’s & I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to have had this knowledge earlier!

It’s such an important factor to consider when working with kids. When a child is within their window of tolerance, they are better able to think, learn and play.

When working with horses our aim is to have the horses support people to learn & become familiar with the optimal arousal zone. So that even when they are triggered they become aware sooner and can learn how to come back into the optimal zone.

Everyone is different so we work WITH the client to determine what works for them 🥰
