There really have been so many highlights over the last year at YDHS.

In fact, there’s too many to name them all individually, but we thought we’d wrap up our look back over the last 12 months by giving a special shoutout to our volunteers.

As they do every year, our volunteers continue to offer so much value in a whole range of capacities across the health service.

Whether it’s transporting our aged care residents to outings and appointments, providing companionship, donating time and skills or fundraising, we’re lucky to have so many dedicated and selfless volunteers.

So to all of our volunteers, including our student volunteers, thank you for all your efforts throughout 2025.

We look forward to continuing to work together in 2026.

2025 was a big year for our Home Care Package clients and staff, with the transition to the new Support at Home program in November.

A huge thanks goes out to all our community care staff who worked tirelessly to ensure a seamless transition to the new Support at Home program.

And of course, we’d also like to thank our Support at Home clients for their patience and understanding during the transition.

We’re now two months into the new program and we’re looking forward to continuing to support our community care clients into 2026 and providing them with the supports they need to maintain their independence.

Easter might seem like quite some time ago, but we were thrilled to see the Tarra Festival return to the streets of Yarram in late April over the Easter long weekend.

With so many of our staff and residents getting involved in this wonderful community event, we had to list this as one of our highlights for the year.

A big thanks to our staff and residents that got involved, as well as to the organising committee for hosting such a fabulous event.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s Tarra Festival.

We’re revisiting some of our highlights over the last 12 months as we head towards the new year and today we’re looking back at our NAIDOC Week event.

NAIDOC Week is always a highlight at YDHS and 2025 was no exception, with this year marking 50 years of NAIDOC Week.

We were pleased to host a Smoking Ceremony, a barbecue with indigenous meats and witness a traditional Aboriginal dance.

Thanks to former YDHS Board Chair Shaun Braybrook and the participants at Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place for sharing their culture with us and helping increase our knowledge of the oldest, continuous living culture on earth.

It’s been a big year at YDHS and so as we count down the remaining days of 2025, we thought we’d look back on some of the highlights of the last 12 months.

And we’re starting with our inaugural Gala event that we hosted back in October.

18 October provided a chance for the local community to don their bests suits and frocks for a night of glamour and giving.

It was a fabulous night all in support of a good cause - our palliative care room upgrades at YDHS.

The night was a huge success raising more than $20,000 and showing us just how generous the Yarram community is and how much they support the work we do here at YDHS.

A big thanks to all our generous sponsors and donors who supported the night and to those who attended a dug deep. Your support is instrumental is ensuring we can provide dignity and comfort to patients and their families at the time when they need it most.

Yarram and District Health Service has secured $6.94 million in funding through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund to deliver a major expansion of St Elmo’s Residential Aged Care Facility.

This investment will enable the delivery of five additional high-quality residential aged care beds, increasing local capacity and ensuring more people can access care close to home.

The expansion strengthens YDHS’s ability to meet growing demand for aged care services in the region while continuing to provide safe, contemporary and person-centred care for our community.

This funding represents a significant milestone for YDHS and reflects our ongoing commitment to improving health infrastructure and outcomes for the Yarram district and surrounding communities.

The most recent financial year has been an incredibly busy one at YDHS.

From upgrading our urgent care and acute department, to expanding our medical clinic services, to redeveloping our palliative care facilities; it’s been a year of substantial progress.

And you can read all about it in our 2024-25 YDHS Annual Report which is now available on our website.

Today is International Human Rights Day which marks the end of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

Over the last 16 days we’ve worked to shine a spotlight on gender-based violence and the impacts it has.

Right around the globe, others have been doing the same in the hope that one day, there’ll be a world free from violence against women and girls.

We commenced our awareness raising activities with a 16 hour walk around Yarram and over the course of the last two-and-a-bit weeks, there’s been plenty of great events including a film screening and Q&A, a community gathering to remember those lives lost gender-based violence and workplace/school-based events.

If you joined us at any of these events, thank you!

We all have a part to play in working towards ending gender-based violence, and while the 16 Days might be over, it doesn’t mean the conversations should stop.

Let’s continue to raise awareness of this important issue in the hope of ending violence against women and girls for good.
