Movement Paradigm - Nathan Wilkinson

Movement Paradigm - Nathan Wilkinson Movement underpins everything we do, so let's explore all the ways we can improve the way we move! That's why Movement Paradigm was created.

When people talk about body language they're talking about movement, when they're talking about behaviour they're talking about movement and when they're talking about posture they're talking about movement. As humans we only have 2 ways to interact with the world around us; sweat or move. If we recognise that movement underpins everything we do it's crucial that we maintain optimum movement capacity. To offer a comprehensive solution to movement dysfunction so you can express yourself without compromise, so you can move with your day instead of through it and so you can perform at your absolute best. It's time to put away the idea that you need to just persevere in the face of pain and tightness and to explore the possibility that maybe we can turn back the clock on your old injuries.

Day 1 of NKT level 1 Perth is all done.

A day spent learning about motor control, anatomy, functional movement and the NKT protocols and applying that knowledge to correct dysfunctions of the lumber spine, hips, knees and feet. What a way to spend a Saturday!

Only a few more hours until we jump back in with some neck, shoulder, arm and hand, shopping with some cool assessments to make getting started in clinic easier!

One of the biggest changes in my approach over recent years has been the shift away from "correcting" localised biomechanical issues to treating the whole person as individual.

Correct a shoulder problem and the shoulder will improve, treat the person and everything improves, including the shoulder.

You may have noticed already that regular FB posting is just not my thing at all. But over the years what I do day to day in clinic has morphed and evolved many times over, so I thought it might be time to update those of you I don't see regularly.

Rather than one big post I think I'll split it into the components that make it work.

First up, I've now got a website - https://movementparadigm.com.au - which is the first time in a long time I've had a central point for people to see what I do. Lots of details there about me and what I do.

What is Movement Paradigm? Movement is everything we do. Our speech, body language, posture, breathing and eating are all movement. In fact, movement is one of only 2 ways we have of interacting with our environment, the other being sweating. That's why Movement Paradigm exists. To offer movement sol...

POSTURE

It occurs NATURALLY in the body and is controlled by INVOLUNTARY processes.

It is the indicator of how well optimised your body is in gravity.

"Poor" posture (if there is such a thing) is NOT the result of tight muscles, it is the result of a lack of optimisation in gravity which LEADS TO tight muscles.

Trying to keep your shoulders back, chest lifted and chin tucked is all well and good until you have to concentrate on anything else. Any change you get this way is the result of additional strain on the body.

Posture should be effortless. You should feel light and free. If you're muscling through resistance is not good posture.

The best posture for you right now is the posture that comes easily. Any intervention applied to "correct" posture should make a new position effortless. It shouldn't be a struggle.

I am now stocking a selection of creams that assist soft tissue health at my South Melbourne clinic. I've chosen these products not just for their reported effects but my own personal experiences with each.

Traumeel is a great herbal and homoeopathic preparation for pain, inflammation and tissue injuries. Available in 50g cream or gel for $41, or 50 tablets for $36. This was one of the reasons I was back at work so quickly after last year's bike crash!

Karma Rub is a liquid magnesium that is great for right, sore muscles and nervous tension. May also help improve sleep. $17 for 100ml

Lastly I've got a Mag Phos cream that's great for cramps and spasms. $13 for a 75g tube

These products are available to clients only.

This past week I finished off a bit of a revamp of my Yarraville treatment space at Flourish. New towels, moved a little furniture and brightened the place up a little.

So I got an email about a month ago telling me I'd been nominated for the APAC Insider Australian Enterprise Awards. I didn't think too much of it and didn't expect it to amount to anything much at all.

Well in my inbox this morning I see an email from their Senior Awards Executive congratulating me on being awarded "Best Alternate Injury Therapy Centre - Melbourne"!

I have no idea how much competition there was in my category, but I guess you've gotta be in it to win it. And someone appreciated and valued my work enough to make the nomination, which is something I feel proud of.

If it was you and you're reading this, thank you๐Ÿ™
