As we enjoy the warmer weather and holiday period, we encourage everyone to take care while spending time outdoors and being active.

Whether you are swimming, boating, fishing, or relaxing by the lake, river, or pool, a few simple precautions can make all the difference—supervise children closely, wear appropriate safety equipment, stay hydrated, and know your limits.

Looking out for one another helps keep our community safe, healthy, and able to enjoy all that summer has to offer.

Merry Christmas from Yarrawonga Health

From all of us at Yarrawonga Health, we’d like to wish our community a very Merry Christmas.

Whether you’re enjoying a well-earned break, hosting the family lunch, or trying not to overdo it on the pavlova, we hope the festive season brings moments of rest, laughter, and connection.

To those in our care over Christmas, and to our staff and volunteers who will be working while others celebrate, thank you. Your care, commitment, and good humour (even on night shift) do not go unnoticed.

Please take care on the roads, look after one another, and remember we’re here if you need us.

Wishing you a safe, happy, and healthy Christmas from the Yarrawonga Health team.

Extreme Heat Warning – Northern Region

Severe heatwaves can be dangerous, particularly for older people, babies and young children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and people with medical conditions or who are unwell.
To stay safe during extreme heat:
Seek a cool place such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep heat out of your home.
Use fans or air-conditioning where available to help keep cool.
Check in on family members, friends and neighbours who may be more vulnerable in hot weather.

Celebrating World Diabetes Day (November 14)

This World Diabetes Day, we celebrated the inspiring journeys of Rita Greco, Kim Barron, and David Holdsworth, three residents who have been living well with Type 1 diabetes for over 50 years.
Rita enjoys the freedom of modern glucose monitoring, no longer needing to prick her fingers, while David embraces life fully, staying active and never letting diabetes hold him back. Kim loves sharing her knowledge with others, explaining that Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are like a car and a motorbike – both get you where you need to go, but in very different ways.

Thanks to Siobhan from Yarrawonga Health and the Yarrawonga-Mulwala T1PS (Type 1 Peer Support) Group, the Kellion Victory Medal dinner was a wonderful celebration of their achievements, resilience, and the power of support and community.

In recognition of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲, we’re honoured to share reflections from two of our volunteers at Yarrawonga Health — Paul Barbuto and Jess Foster. Their experiences highlight what true inclusion looks and feels like in a workplace built on kindness, respect, and opportunity for all.

Both Paul and Jess shared that one of the most meaningful parts of volunteering here is feeling genuinely valued and supported. They spoke about being treated no differently to anyone else — something that allows them to show up confidently, contribute their strengths, and be part of a team where they truly belong.

Paul described how volunteering makes him feel good and connected, and that there are no boundaries to what he can achieve — things might take a little longer, but nothing is off limits. Jess reflected on her positive journey with us, sharing that the caring nature of staff and residents has made her feel understood, included, and appreciated every day.

When asked what they want people to understand about living and working with a disability, both highlighted the importance of seeing the person first. Jess shared her “give everything a go” attitude, while Paul encouraged more workplaces to welcome volunteers of all abilities. They both reminded us that inclusion isn’t about grand gestures — sometimes it’s as simple as a smile, patience, and a caring nature.

Their advice for others entering the workforce is powerful: don’t limit yourself, try new things, and remember that everyone wants the same thing — to feel valued, respected, and part of something meaningful.

💛 Today and every day, we celebrate the voices and contributions of people of all abilities. Thank you, Paul and Jess, for inspiring us with your positivity, strength, and the vibrant energy you bring to our community.

Today, 3 December, we recognise the International Day of People with Disabilities and reaffirm that inclusion and safety must go hand in hand.

People with disabilities experience higher rates of violence, discrimination, and exclusion. During the 16 Days of Activism, we highlight the importance of accessible support services, respectful communication, and environments where everyone feels safe — physically, emotionally, and digitally.

A truly inclusive community is one where every person is valued, heard, and protected.

🧡 Inclusion is a human right.
🧡 Safety is a human right.
🧡 Respect is a human right.

Today, 25 November, marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women — the first day of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign.

This year, we stand with communities across Australia and around the world to shine a light on violence in ALL forms — including digital abuse, coercive control, and the everyday behaviors that diminish women’s safety and rights.

Every woman and girl deserves to live free from violence — at home, online, at work, and in our community.

🧡 Let’s raise our voice.
🧡 Let’s call out disrespect.
🧡 Let’s create a culture where safety, dignity, and equality are non-negotiable.
