Yea & District Memorial Hospital is pleased to welcome our new Occupational Therapy Students to Murrindindi as part of the Our Community Our Children Project.

Charlotte and Mackenzie are the first students to be placed at Alexandra & District Kindergarten. An amazing milestone for the project. While Zac and Emma have been welcomed at Yea Uniting Kindergarten.

We thank all the community, the families, educators and clinical supervisors that have helped bring this innovate program to our Shire.

Forming effective partnerships is often the key to success. The Rotary Club of Yea has successfully gained a grant of $20,000 from Elders to be used in partnership with the Yea and District Community Hospital to provide further health facilities at the Yea Saleyards. These health facilities will be in a dedicated building and will be available to all community members to use on cattle sale days.

The cheque was presented yesterday at the Yea Saleyards to Rotarian representative Secretary Glenda Woods and YDMH CEO Elizabeth Sinclair. Thanks to Elders for supporting this great community initiative.

Free Dementia Workshops for Health Professionals

Dementia Australia in collaboration with Yea & District Memorial Hospital and Alexandra District Health are hosting two engaging workshops designed to enhance your understanding and practical skills in supporting people living with dementia.
Ideal for nurses, aged care workers, allied health professionals and anyone working in dementia care.

Workshop 1: Understanding Dementia
Tuesday 2 December | 1:00pm – 4:00pm
This workshop provides an overview of dementia, including signs, symptoms, causes and an understanding of how dementia affects the brain and behaviour. You will be encouraged to reflect on your practice and ways this knowledge translates into person centred support for people living with dementia.
You will gain knowledge in:
- The nature of dementia, including prevalence, risks, types of dementia, how the brain works and signs of dementia.
- A person-centred approach to dementia support including communication, choice and decision-making.
- Resources and services available to you.

Workshop 2: Applying a Problem-Solving Approach to Behaviours
Wednesday 3 December | 9:30am – 12:30pm
This workshop provides an understanding of changed behaviours related to dementia, their impact and contributing factors. You will learn how to apply a systematic approach to changed behaviours and provide positive support strategies for people living with dementia.
You will gain knowledge in:
- Systematic approaches to changed behaviours.
- Identifying contributing factors to behaviour change.
- Providing positive support strategies for people living with dementia.
