OUR PHILOSOPHY

In recent years a high percentage of people around the globe have opted to take a natural and holistic approach to their health. The removal of chemicals, preservatives and additives and the addition of fresh, whole and organic foods now comfortably walks hand in hand with the use of natural medicine. Almost two decades ago, Sue started formulating herbal blends and treatment plans using the same principles but for animals with astounding results. At a time when the acceptance of herbal medicine for animals was quite poor, the more than favourable outcome of the animals that were transitioning to a natural diet and herbs brought about much curiosity and excitement of what could be. It wasn’t long before a herbal medicine for animals business was established and over the following 14 years, Sue lectured in the areas of Animal Naturopathy, Herbal medicine, Nutrition, Pasture management, Anatomy and physiology and Myofunctional therapy and graduated in the areas of Animal Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Shiatsu, Bowen Therapy and Iridology. The constant study, dedication and further development of the treatments for animals gained the respect of Veterinary practitioners and Animal practitioners alike. With so much interest, Sue offered regular presentations for owners and travelled to the UK and Europe where she continued to educate owners about the simple, cost effective and incredible health benefits associated with offering their pets a natural lifestyle along with the use of herbal medicine when needed. With many years of experience and the need to continue to help the animal world, we are proud to be offering our new herbal range. This time we have opted for pure herbal extracts with 75-80% being fresh plant tinctures that have been grown in Australia. The development of products and treatment plans are ongoing which means that our journey is far from over. Want to join us? We would love to be a part of your pet’s journey too.

Most of you know that this is a photo of Arnie, my much loved and cherished senior boy!
I know my time with him is limited, so I do everything possible to keep him as happy and as healthy as I can.
Recently he suffered from acute gas colic (only our 2nd colic case with our horses in over 30 years) shaking from head to tail and clearly, extremely distressed.
After my moment of tears and panic, I pulled myself together, checked his vital signs (I highly recommend calling a vet immediately if this happens to your horse) and started administering herbal extracts, syringed directly into his mouth.
When extracts are syringed into the mouth, they absorb almost immediately, and thankfully, shortly after Arnie stopped shaking and the worry across his face turned into relief.
With this, he started to release the trapped gas, and both him and I began breathing an enormous sigh of relief.

I want everyone to experience just how beneficial herbal extracts are.

Not only can they be used to support our pets in these types of situations, but they can also be used seasonally, to support the musculature/soft tissue and joints, and to detoxify and strengthen the body, aiding healing.

So on Friday the 27th, Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 1st…I’m taking 20% off ALL herbal extracts.
OUR BIGGEST SALE EVER!!!

Save the date and make your choices prior to the first weekend of Autumn…and if you’re not sure what you need, please contact me and ask in advance,
Sue xo

***If your horse is suffering from any acute condition such as colic, or other medical condition it is highly recommended that you contact a medical professional immediately.***

February the 17th marks the year of the Fire Horse.
While the fire element is associated with passion, courage, vitality and speed, and the horse symbolises bold decisions and dramatic change…I’d like to look at another perspective that I feel is important to acknowledge in regards to the year of the horse.

This photo is of me, practicing qigong, as the sun rises, with 2 of our horses.

Take a moment to look at the photo, and you’ll notice a calm, closeness and a quiet connection between myself and the horses.

If you haven’t been lucky enough to experience the company of a horse, I can tell you that our herd spend most of their days resting.
When I practice qigong, they join me, their warm breath in rhythm with mine. Their muzzle gently pressing on my cheek.

Our horses quietly graze, and meander across the paddocks, while taking in the changing seasons, foraging for various pasture species and living in the moment.

In Chinese culture the horse is a symbol of forward momentum and represents a “freedom” and the strength to overcome limitations we have placed on ourselves, allowing us to live authentically and free from restraint.

Looking through this lens, our perspective should reflect more of a balance.

While it is a year to step out of our comfort zones and move forward, it is also a time to make rational decisions with a clear and calm mind, rather than to gallop with intensity, and gathering overwhelming emotions as a result of intense risk taking.

Navigating a Fire Horse year requires balancing active momentum with intentional rest, aiming for “movement with rest built in” rather than chaotic energy.

Success is achieved by avoiding over stimulation or excessive restriction, instead fostering a calm, grounded approach that sustains long term action.

Have you thought about how you might plan to pace yourself during the year of the Fire Horse?

Remember, the horse has the ability to channel fiery energy into a strong, rhythmic canter, while still knowing when to drop his head, and with minimal effort, flick off the flies and resume grazing.

Wonga Park Stock Feed & Equine, along with Liam at Eastern Rural Contacting have donated their own hay to those affected by the fires.

I wanted to share this, because these people are currently working tirelessly, cutting, raking and baling, without wages, and paying their workers…..to supply hay to those who have been placed in terrible circumstances due to the fires, and desperately need hay.

The community certainly comes together at times of need…..these people jumped into action immediately, working around the clock to provide for those who have lost more than most of us could imagine.

Some exceptional humans quietly and humbly walk amongst us every day.

So next time you’re at Wonga Park Stock Feed, or perhaps meet Liam from Eastern Rural Contracting….be sure to remember their endless hours of work, and extraordinary generosity.

32 years ago these two crazy kids (pictured) got married!
A whirlwind romance, when Susie Bates (me😁) fell head over heels for the spunky farrier that showed kindness and patience to the horse that I had purchased, with no skill, only the knowledge from books, along with almost zero horse experience!
He taught me how to be safe, and yodelled his way into my heart…and after just five weeks he put a horse shoe nail , made into a ring from his anvil on my finger and asked me to marry him. Of course how could I refuse 😄🥰
Within five months, I became Sue Martin and over 32 years we raised a superb family with 2 children we’re super proud of, dogs that I often refer to as our children 😁 horses, that I also declare my love for daily…as well as many other animals that yes…I adore!
Like many families in the Yarra Valley, we spent years (on 2 occasions) camped in sheds and lived without heating, bathrooms or kitchens while we built our farm.
Spent years building soil and gardens equipped with only a shovel a wheelbarrow along with an abundance of determination.
And after all these years, we still work hard, on our property and love every moment of it…..together!
We’ve navigated life’s hiccups, bumps in the road and what has sometimes felt like catastrophic earthquakes at times….but have always made it to the other side together because have been lucky enough to have each other’s support.
What a wild ride the last 32 years have been (I wouldn’t change a thing) and with so many plans for the future, I already know the years ahead will be more amazing than I could possibly imagine.
Happy Anniversary never forget that I love you more than ice cream xo

My philosophy has always been to treat the individual dog, from a holistic perspective…using a multifaceted approach.
The objective will always be, to achieve the best long term health as we possibly can, allowing the body to be as strong and healthy as it can be, and to allow it to have the ability to heal itself.
If your dogs can feel comfortable, happy and love life, then the objective has definitely been reached…and we will all feel satisfied and happy with that outcome.
Our Canine Clinic is open to every Wednesday in the Yarra Valley, however I often also see dogs on a Monday and Friday.
So please feel welcome to check in for the best day for you.

When we moved to our property “Mabuhay” we didn’t have a house, a garden or paddocks….but we did have our horses, a very special little pooch named Bonnie and a kitty cat almost the same size as Bonnie, named Minnie.
Minnie would come with me to feed the horses and was very good at letting me know how she wanted us to serve her. 😉
Both of these girls have since crossed the rainbow bridge, but they’re never far from our thoughts and will remain forever in our hearts xo

***FELINE RESPIRATORY TESTIMONIAL***
My cat Hania has multiple and complex health issues which require ongoing medication and care.
Of late, he’s had major gut issues as well as ongoing lung problems (he only has around 30% functioning bronchi).
After speaking to Sue we changed his herbs to her Respiratory formula, which is effective for both his breathing and his gut.
Within a week I have been able to halve his pain medication, and he’s clearly MUCH happier. Thank you again Sue and keep up the wonderful work!

Reducing Blood Glucose Levels Naturally
Natural nutrients from plants are often considered superior to synthetics due to their higher bioavailability and the presence of synergistic compounds.
They contain a complex and balanced array of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that work together for optimal absorption and utilization by the body. In contrast, synthetic nutrients are isolated, lab-created versions that often lack these crucial cofactors.
The body is designed to absorb and utilize the complex, synergistic nutrient profiles found in nature, rather than isolated compounds created in a lab.
With this in mind, lets turn our focus to horses that struggle with elevated blood glucose levels.
Adding synthetic supplements and a myriad of processed foods can often exacerbate this problem.
Synthetic vitamins and processed foods can cause blood glucose problems in horses by disrupting their metabolism.
Diets high in non-structural carbohydrates (NSC), or sugars and starches, lead to rapid blood glucose spikes and can cause insulin resistance over time. A natural diet, rich in fibre and low in NSC, ensures more stable blood sugar levels.
There are numerous compounds, found naturally in certain plants/herbs that can effectively reduce blood glucose levels.
These are just a few examples –
