Last January I started with rehab Physio Pilates. After the first session I went to the car and bawled my eyes out.
To face how weak and frail I felt was truly humbling.
I’d rolled both ankles over 2022/23 which meant I’d got in the habit of moving less due to the pain. Fatigue, migraines and body pain didn’t help. I’d been dizzy most of 2022-24. Even doing yoga or any movement exercise with dizziness and headache was near impossible. The migraines eased last year which meant I could start moving again. I didn’t even realise how dizzy I’d been until it eased. I’d taken it as normal
I had lots of shame come up, and I dare say I wanted to run away from it, but I decided to face up. I went regularly for two months then fell in a bit of a whole. I’d taken on too much and bottomed out. It’s happened pretty regularly over the past decade and it’s very annoying
I went back in April to the Physio Pilates and again had a big cry after the first session.
Ugh.
I had the tell the Physio to treat me like a 90 yr old so they wouldn’t push me. I can’t afford to be on the couch for two days after a session which is what happened after one session with a new Physio who I discovered after had given me intermediate exercises 🤦♀️
The right Physio turned out to be a 30 yr old male who actually listened and would grade the exercises for me. I’m very grateful to him, and I’ve learnt a lot in the process.
In late August I joined the gym as my health rebates were running out and the Physio classes were 💵. The gym has lots of group classes included in membership and I started going to the mat Pilates and yoga, sometimes working up to two classes a day and even four a week.
Towards the end of last year I could feel the strength in my plank holds and core. It felt so good
Today I hit 50 gym visits since then, which is a mean average of a visit every 2.89 days. I never thought I’d be a gym ju**ie but I’m going to focus on getting that mean average down.
Honestly I don’t care what my body looks like, I just want to feel strong and able to live my best farm life.
Here’s to feeling stronger in 2026
