Every 30 minutes!

That’s how often someone in Australia is diagnosed with melanoma.

It’s a reminder of how important it is to stay aware of your skin. Getting to know what’s normal for you can make it easier to notice when something changes.

If you notice a new spot, or something that looks different or has changed over time, it’s worth having it checked by a healthcare professional.

If you’re unsure, or it’s been a while since your last skin check, have a chat with your GP about what’s right for you.

Today is International Day of Happiness 😁

Living in a place like Central Queensland, we’re lucky to have simple things around us that can support our wellbeing. A walk along the beach, fresh air, time with friends or family.

Happiness isn’t about feeling good all the time. It’s about feeling balanced, supported and able to cope with everyday life.

Often it’s the small, consistent habits that help. Getting enough sleep, moving your body, spending time outdoors and staying connected with others can all support both your mental and physical health.

A small reminder today to make time for the things that help you feel like yourself again.
Looking after your wellbeing is an important part of your overall health.

🔤 Know your skin ABCDEs

When it comes to checking your skin, remembering your ABCs can help you spot changes early.

The ABCDE rule is a simple guide used when looking at spots or moles:

🔆A – Asymmetry
One half of the spot does not match the other.

🔆B – Border
Edges may appear irregular, uneven or blurred.

🔆C – Colour
Different shades or uneven colour within the same spot.

🔆D – Diameter
Larger than about 6mm.

🔆E – Evolving
Any spot that is changing in size, shape or colour over time.

You might also notice other warning signs such as a new spot that looks different from others, a sore that does not heal, itching, bleeding, crusting, or rapid changes in size, shape or colour.

1 Australian every 6 hours.

Melanoma continues to affect families across Australia, with one person losing their life to the disease approximately every six hours.

In Queensland, where UV exposure is high year-round, skin awareness is especially important.

Getting to know your own skin matters, but so does keeping an eye out for the people around you. A partner, parent or friend may not always notice a changing spot on their back or shoulders. Sometimes it is someone else who spots the difference first.

If you notice a spot that is new, changing, or looks different from others, it is worth having it assessed by a healthcare professional.

Raising awareness, protecting your skin and looking out for each other are small steps that can make a meaningful difference.

👭Today we recognise and celebrate International Women’s Day.

In healthcare, supporting women means more than one day of recognition. It means ensuring access to preventive screening, informed care and respectful conversations at every stage of life. Women’s health plays a vital role in the wellbeing of families and our wider community.

Our team also took a moment to celebrate together in the clinic. We’re proud to work alongside strong, compassionate and dedicated women who support our patients every day.

To the women in our community, thank you for the care, leadership and resilience you bring, both inside and outside the healthcare setting.

In light of International Women’s Day, we want to acknowledge something we see often in general practice.

Many women put the needs of everyone else first. Children, partners, parents, work and community. Their own health can easily move to the bottom of the list.

But looking after your own wellbeing matters. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

Regular breast screening, cervical screening, mental health check-ins and routine health reviews all play an important role in long-term wellbeing. Small, consistent steps can make a big difference over time.

If it has been a while since you prioritised your own health, this is a gentle reminder to book in and have a conversation with your GP.

March is Melanoma March.

Melanoma is one of the most common cancers in Australia, and here in Queensland our rates are among the highest in the world. In Australia, someone is diagnosed around every 30 minutes, and it remains the most common cancer in people aged 20 to 39.

The good news is that early detection makes a real difference, and advances in treatment over the past decade have improved outcomes significantly.

Throughout March, we’ll be sharing simple information about what to look out for and why regular skin checks matter.

If you’ve noticed a new or changing spot, or if it has been a while since your last skin check, give the clinic a call and we can organise a time to have it looked at.

World Hearing Day is a reminder that hearing health affects more people than we often realise.

You may have noticed a parent turning the television up louder, a partner asking you to repeat yourself more often, or a loved one withdrawing from conversations in noisy settings. Hearing changes can develop gradually, and many people are reluctant to admit they are having difficulty.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 430 million people worldwide are living with disabling hearing loss. It is more common than many of us think.

Difficulty following conversations, increasing the volume on devices, or avoiding social situations can be early signs.

If you are concerned about your own hearing, or that of someone close to you, it may be worth having it checked. Your GP can assess symptoms and guide next steps where appropriate.
