"Seeing trauma as an internal dynamic grants us much-needed agency. If we treat trauma as an external event,  something that happens to or around us, then it becomes a piece of history we can never dislodge. If, on the other hand, trauma is what took place inside us as a result of what happened, in the sense of wounding or disconnection, then healing and reconnection become tangible possibilities" - Dr Gabor Maté

Children in particular might intentionally or unconsciously create moments of disconnection (rupture) to see how I will respond, testing whether the relationship is safe and repairable 🌻

These are some paper doll "parts" I created alongside a little person, inspired by Tracy Lynch's book Bella from Behind the Tree. I had the privilege of participating in Tracy's Resource Therapy training last year and it has not only worked its way into my practice but my life and worldview 😍

Resource Therapy is based on an understanding that we all have different 'parts' - aspects of ourselves shaped by our experiences. Some parts hold pain, some protect us, and others help us thrive. From a neuroscientific point of view, these parts are linked to neural pathways formed through our experiences.

Resource Therapy is a vehicle to heal wounded parts, strengthen supportive ones, and intentionally call on the parts of us that help us feel safe, confident, and connected.
