Let’s talk the mind/body connection!
I think we have all heard about how powerful our minds can be and the impact they can have on our body, think the secret & the law of manifestation but the mind/body connection is also incredible powerful during birth.
In the words of Neuro Scientist Candace Pert “Our emotions really run everything, they not only run our physiology, they run our behaviours and they lead to more choices.”
Our thoughts and emotions have a profound affect on our physiological body and our responses to the situations we encounter - think fight/flight/freeze response.
When a woman & her partner enter birth with a mindset of fear and anxiety the body releases stress hormones that travel through the bloodstream, through the placenta and then on to baby.
The healing of old emotional traumas or traumas surrounding prior births for the mother and her partner is vital and truly has an amazing effect on the birth of their baby. In order for a woman to progress in labour, release, surrender and trust is key for the birth process. The primitive, instinctual side of the mother's brain needs to step forward and be embraced, it takes practice but the rewards can be truly amazing and can include a shorter & easier labour with less interventions.
Fear releases and open, honest discussions about our fears can be an amazing way to really ensure that you are stepping into your birth fully owning your power. It is also important to acknowledge that fear is an innate part of being human and especially birth. Birth in itself is the complete cracking open of everything we thought we knew so the goal isn’t to completely eradicate fear but to work through these fears so that you are able to let these fears wash over you and not consume your experience.
A beautiful affirmation I have been loving is “I have moments of fear but I am not afraid.”
Have you ever done a fear release before? How did you find the experience?
